Great location and large clean room. Very disappointing breakfast at the George though. Waited 20 minutes for a very unappealing looking plate of food and a bizarre set up. Sticky tables in breakfast room too. Staff were lovely though.

The good Great location on High Street near to multiple eating places, shops and tourist attractions (e.g Colchester Castle). Clean, big room. Comfortable bed and pillows. Big bathroom. Mugs rather than cups - always a positive. The bad The room was too warm to be comfortable and, apart from opening the window, has no way of cooling the room - the in room thermostat indicated 28C one point. Quilt on the bed but no top sheet - not ideal in the heat. The location on High Street can be noisy, which didn't encourage opening the window to try and cool the room. Bathroom extractor fan didn't work. The shower head rose didn't work. The indifferent In retrospect, I was not given the room that I booked - booked a Feature Room but I'm pretty sure that I got an, accessible standard double. The hotel is about 50m from the church in location in another, sister, hotel - we were told about this by the hotel but it's an unusual situation.

Hotel is directly opposite where you check in, which is The George pub. No staff being readily available in the building was a little inconvenient as we had a few confusing moments with the room temperature and couldn’t change it. Also, tv remote was broken so was difficult to navigate using it, but having no main reception in the building meant you couldn’t just pop and get a replacement! But it was very clean, large wet room and not too much trouble to navigate once inside. Would stay again, as it conveniently on the high street so all shops are so close.

The hotel is bang in the middle of town and the staff are friendly, the shower is good but could use more pressure and the bed is comfy. The breakfast was the best breakfast i have had at a hotel. The Air con system has no effect on the temperature of the room and the window in our room was broken. The hotel is also over the road from a night club and is very noisy till 2am and then at 6am the bin men start up at outside. this is not the hotels fault but if you want a good night's sleep you won't find it here.
