We've stayed at Holiday Inn Express before and always been very happy. This was no exception. The staff were polite and helpful. The rooms are clean with good bedding and pillows. The bathroom is well laid out with a very good shower and plenty of hot water. The breakfast was excellent with so much choice. When we take short breaks or need a stopover we always look for a Holiday Inn Express as a firstvchoice if possible.

Would be 4* as the rooms and breakfast were fairly reasonable (if overpriced). However, the owners IHG seem to have decided it's perfectly reasonable to charge people extra to use a car park in the middle of nowhere. The sign says it's a public carpark on private land, but ignoring the contradiction it's nothing of the sort. Everyone staying at the hotel has to use it because there's no other way to get there and no one else would any reason to because there's nothing else there. So, despite paying a large amount for a room, the first thing you must do before you even get in the door is pay more money. Even Travelodges at motorway service stations give you free parking, but not here.

Wes re a couple and stayed for one night only as we had a course in Colchester the next day. Pleasant stay, breakfast very well served, staff helpful, location very convenient. We had an accessible room just noticed the shower curtains a bit dirty but all the rest was in perfect condition. Car park is paid for 8£ per night.

Nice hotel and location just of A12 so easy for onward travel. Nice rooms clean and comfortable and a reasonable selection of evening food. The Breakfast is good too. I’ll certainly be staying there again next time around and would definitely recommend.

I've stayed here before multiple times. I would say this was the best stay I've had at the hotel. The breakfast was nice and hot and the quality of the ingredients seemed to be better. The room was spacious and the greeting at reception was professional and courteous. My only whinge is that I do hate paying for parking separately when I'm staying in a hotel. It should be part of the deal in my opinion. But this is a good place to stay on a business one-nighter.
