Such a beautiful location and Alfred the owner/manager could not have been more helpful. We loved our stay and wish we could’ve heard him play some jazz. Food was top notch!!! Views to die for!!! Hits all the senses!!!! Breakfast and cappuccinos where wonderful also.

What a great little hotel! The town is rather small and not much shops like San Gimignano, but this hotel is clean, rooms are roomy and the garden dining is out of this world. Beautiful with views of the sunset and amazing food. One of my favorite. The town has several restaurants too and some good museums.

What a beautiful location and building! Delicious restaurant and patio onsite. They have very helpful and accommodating staff. The room was quite spacious. Our only complaint would be the terrible mattress- we could feel the springs of the mattress, so we did not sleep so well. Thankfully, it was only one night. Otherwise, we recommend this hotel.

Staying at Hotel Il Castello was a step back into history - a beautiful appointed historic building that had been sympathetically made over into a hotel/bar/restaurant, with panoramic views over Lower Certaldo. The bedrooms very clean, with rustic charm and furnishings. Modern functioning shower, TV, and AIRCON unit which was very welcome in the intensive 30+ degree heat of the day and night. The background music in the restaurant/bar always playing Jazz music - which, whilst not my favourite type of music, was actually very pleasant. Not surprising since the owner is a Jazz musician and either was OR is still heavily involved in the Jazz music industry. The only downside (and maybe only to British travellers?) was the absence of Tea/Coffee making facilities in your hotel room. From start to finish, hotel staff always helpful, always smiling and eager to assist in any way. Continental breakfast every morning with the options of cereals was marvellous. Certalo Alto (Upper Certaldo) where the hotel is positioned is in a fortified town and is very rustic and sympathetically restored without making everything look new, you KNOW without doubt that the area is set deep in history. Absolutely beautiful place. Dare I say it, younger people, or people without a car might find the lack of local amenities a bit of a challenge, but if you are looking for a sleepy, relaxing atmosphere, then this is the place for you. If the owner and staff see this, I really do want to thank them.
