Photo "One of the most important rivers in the German federal state Thuringia is the Saale river, sourced in Northern Bavaria and flowing into the Elb river near Magdeburg. For the Thuringian Highlands in the early 19th century it was the root of many floods, but also sometimes ran dry in summer. This resulted in the build of the Bleiloch dam near Saalburg, damming up the largest water volume in Germany. In the 1950's (GDR) another Saale dam in Thuringia was build (Hohenwarte) for producing hydro-electric energy for the steel industry (Maxhütte) in Saalfeld/Unterwellenborn. So the Saale gets dammed up two times and in between of those two dams, the nice little town of Ziegenrück is placed and starting point for motor-boating or water sports activity." by Db8fs (page does not exist) (Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0) / Cropped from original
