Great stay at Thompsons Arms while visiting family in the area. Clean and comfortable room, very friendly hosts and must mention the terrific cooked breakfasts!
An added treat was the local musicians playing folk songs in the bar, a monthly event, so lucky to catch it :-)
Also a convenient location for visiting York, which was as delightful and interesting as ever.
Stayed for one night in the one bedroom cottage. Clean, well appointed. Great shower. Really enjoyed the full English in the pub. Would re-book. Thank you
Huge room with everything I would need for an overnight stay. Plenty of tea, coffee, and toiletries. Room was spotlessly clean and I had a great night's sleep in the comfortable bed. As a lone traveller, I was made to feel really welcome and would definitely return.
Booked for one night whilst working at York Racecourse. Stuart and Lilli are absolutely fabulous hosts nothing too much trouble. My room was clean, comfortable and had a good shower. The cooked english breakfast was delicious and a great way to start the day. I would definitely recommend and will be looking to book again for next year. I nearly forgot Carling Lager at £3.50 a pint what more could you want.

Respite
We went for a weekend. It was respite as we have a disabled daughter. Everything was just right. Sofa was a bit low, as we are 69 and 74 yeas in age so it was hard on the knees. But other than that it was warm and cosy and quiet. We enjoyed our rest. Thank you.

Stay over to York
Nice little village pub. Locals came in for drinks in the evening and it was very competitive prices.
Comfortable bed, tv in room. Shower wasnt the most powerful but it works and its warm.
Hosts are nice and the breakfast was yummy. (They have 2 cute little dogs that we saw on check-in ).
Was only 15 mins drive to york centre.
We stayed in the rooms above the pub not the outside rooms like we thought it was from the photos online but it was still nice. Wasnt much within walking distance so would need a car to hunt for food in the evening but there are a few places not too far drive.
Nice place to stay. Secure onsite parking. Located out in the country, no stores for miles. Really nice roomy space upstairs with two skylights offering plenty of natural light with some views. No number or name for the room. There are food & drink options. 3 nights in early-September 2025.
Negatives:
Whimsical Keys of the past, really don't do it for me for many safety reasons. I recommend leaving this type of key in the slot while in the room. Wi-Fi was timing out & not the easiest to reconnect. TV would power up but not connect to anything for long, screen was black more often than not for all channels & never improved. No USB ports.
Positives:
Check-in was easy. Onsite free parking. Room was super quiet, clean, roomy, & comfortable. Nice view. Water was hot. Everything was clean. Interesting Bathroom with roomy shower with adjustable hand held shower head. Lot's of bathroom extras provided and choices of big (what you buy for yourself at home) bottles of shampoo & body gel. Only place of six that actually has proper towel bars. Always appreciate a in room Refrigerator. Check-out was easy.

Amazing B&B Recommend to all!!!!!
Absolutly amazing, owners are brilliant and make you feel really welcome, both husband and wife made you feel comfortable and will be using the again often
Lovely country pub. Large comfortable bedroom. Beautiful outdoor seating area/gardens. Had a couple of great local beers but did not eat. Super friendly landlord and locals.
Two adults and 2 children stayed in no2 cottage. A compact one bedroom cottage with a large comfortable bed and sofa bed in sitting room. Kitchen has all you need for short stay. Vehicles kept in gated area, so very secure. Stu and his wife are friendly, their breakfast was excellent quality for price (additional charge). This must be the cheapest pub in the UK.(£3 pint) Overall we had a very pleasant 3 nights. Thank you.
