Old Plough Field. View to the Oak Beds wood and shed. Our last curlew's nest was in here. The birds convinced us it was in a neighbouring field, which was then strictly protected, and we ran over the hidden nest in here. They can be too clever for their own good.

The wood, New House Farm There is no farm at New House anymore - it is an upmarket housing development now. This was their land, and this was a few acres of woodland on steep slopes corresponding to Court Farm's (that's all but gone too) Oak Beds. The wood was felled in the 1970's and replanted along with many other corners of the farm by its very conservation minded owner at the time. The land has changed hands, but the maturing woods remain. The field in the foreground is being grazed by sheep (off shot).

Red soil. The country around Hereford is known for red cattle and heavy red soil. Here are some freshly ploughed fields, 20 miles north of the city. The hill is Titterstone Clee. Until recently we used the ruin as a hay barn. The land has since been sold and is rented out as keep. It is no longer arable.
