“This is not a place to stay for light or sensitive sleepers. It is across the road from the town's clocktower which strikes every hour and chimes every quarter right through the night. The hotel clearly recognises the problem because it leaves earplugs, which are ineffective, by the bedside. We had booked for two nights but left after one because we couldn't bear another sleepless night. The manageress was entirely unsympathetic and certainly wouldn't entertain a refund. “The Ilfracombe is a little olde worlde but very comfortable and quiet. The beds are comfortable, the rooms clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast served in their quaint breakfast room is absolutely superb and set us up well for a long day's walking in the sea air! ”

“A good hotel with clean comfortable rooms. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Evening restaurant meals were okay with a pretty "standard" menu with an odd approach of staggering restaurant sittings for larger groups. The location is somewhat out of the way which makes getting there a little difficult without a car. Rooms do not have air conditioning and do not come with a fridge which I would have expected given the prices for rooms. I would stay again if visiting the area...

“Room was clean, but smelt damp and fusty. Bathroom was ok, but hot water in the cold tap slightly concerning. The shampoo had not been filled up. Queue for check-in, and also for checkout. The rooms do need some tlc. Extractor fan didn't work which is probably why the room smelt damp.”

“Our stay at this hotel was very comfortable. All staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Our room was a standard room at the top of the house and it was very clean with a nice ensuite and a comfortable bed. The decor and furniture enhanced the room giving plenty of space to put our clothes and personal effects. Food was very good, we had a three course dinner and the food was delicious.
