Westfjords

Iceland

The Westfjords of Iceland is a large peninsula in northwestern Iceland. It has a mountainous coastline, heavily indented by dozens of fjords surrounded by steep hills. These fjords make roads circuitous and difficult to drive. The mountain scenery is rugged but specular.

Dynjandi waterfalls are a magnificent sight and is the most commonly visited place for tourists visiting Iceland. This view of the Atlantic ocean opposite to the waterfalls is just as serene as the waterfalls itself. The midnight sun at the horizon is just once a lifetime experience that no one should ever miss if you happen to visit Iceland, the land of Fire and Ice!
Rauðasandur is home to a fantastic little summer music festival, also called Rauðasandur. Attendees camp on a local farm, where concerts are held in a barn in the evenings.

Rauðasandur is distinguished by its namesake, red sand. This beautiful spot is great for camping and hiking in the summer. Rauðasandur is located in the southwest part of the Westfjords, near Patreksfjörður. #Goldenhour
The drive from Patreksfjörður to Ísafjörður is absolutely spectacular. The Westfjords are a must-see on a summer trip to Iceland. #TroverDetour

Driving from Holmavik to Isafjordur. Fjords are BEAUTIFUL!! Waterfalls EVERYWHERE!! These pictures simply can't do them justice. This was such a remote area, I saw under 10 other cars in my 4.5 hour drive. In fact, on that note, the drive is only suppose to take 3 hours, but the scenery was so beautiful I kept driving slower and slower to look at it all and "take it all in"... Not to mention stopping a lot to take pictures... I literally wanted to stop at every waterfall, but there were so many! At least 100 little random waterfalls on this 4.5 hour drive. So incredible!!!

Hómavík is a charming little town at the southern base of the Westfjords. Here there is a small museum dedicated to the history of Icelandic sorcery and witchcraft, which at ISK 900 (about $8 USD) per person, is definitely worth a visit. #TroverDetour
