“Quirky place to stay! Lovely big room for our family of four, in peaceful surroundings next to a ruined castle and 10 minutes from Hadrians Wall! Friendly staff and nice home cooked food for dinner and breakfast!”

“We had a lovely stay at the Old Schoolhouse. Our room and bathroom were spacious. Our hosts had homemade treats for us each day (an oatmeal raisin cookie our first day and a piece of spice cake the next). Our breakfast was at a large table with the other guests. We loved talking to them, several of whom were walking the length of Hadrian's wall. The breakfast itself was delicious and generous. We would absolutely stay here again.”

“Our room was very clean, the staff were excellent and the food was very good. We thought the cost of room and breakfast was a bit pricey. Some refurbishment is needed, the easy chair in our room was very uncomfortable and threadbare.”

“Upon arrival at the gueshouse (an hour early, our mistake), the door opened and we were faced with a rude, angry woman, whom we assumed was the host. She told us we could not come in and only after a bit of pleading, she allowed us to leave our luggage in the front entry. After speaking to a Carlisle business owner who was familiar with her, and looking up recent reviews, we decided to look for other accommodations. “A very warm and genuine welcome on arrival. The room was perfectly adequate for my needs, nice double bed with views over the rooftops of the historic town centre and over to the moors. Delicious cooked-to-order breakfast.”
