The room was very clean with a beautiful view (36 Carlota). The beach access is second to none. It is meant to replicate some sort of italian town near the sea. In some ways it does do that. The service at the restaurants was spotty at times and the food is uninspiring. Better food can be found in town. The December 24-25 dates may have been part of the problem. On December 24 they simply did not have enough staff to run the restaurants. The food prices at the store on site (Copper & Stone) are ridiculousy high. Believe the reviews about the road leading to the resort: full of very deep potholes. It is 2 miles of very unpleasant riding. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards. The per hour rate is very steep. Would I go again? Yes but I would bring my own food.

We loved this property location. It is VERY safe and convenient for a relaxing vacation. We traveled with another couple, who booked a different room on the property and had included the beach club ($30/person) and daily maid service, for the same price. Las Catalinas could be lovely. But there is so much construction going on at all hours that it is far from peaceful and almost impossible to sleep. The presence of the construction and the car free requirements (you must valet your car) make it very hard to get in and out of the community (30 minutes at a time to pickup the car unless you tip lavishly), making you hostage to eating at only their very expensive restaurants during your stay. The accommodations themselves are otherwise quite nice, and the beach is lovely too. But they need to deal with the gridlock and the construction noise.

The view from my room was beautiful! The room was perfect for a couple. I would give it a five stars rating if the bathroom didn’t smell like mold. I told the front desk; they said they would look into it; but nothing was done. In addition, the TV didn’t work on the third day that we were there. They could not fix it 😕 The construction noise started from 07am to 10 pm. There was only one road to get in and out of town. It was very very bumpy! Food was expensive at Las Catalinas and Tamarindo. But people were very kind and super friendly.
