Needs an interior upgrade in the corridors and stairs leading to rooms, very dated and shabby. The bar area was beautiful and the dinner was excellent. Be sure to get the cheese plate for dessert, fantastic! Staff was very helpful and so pleasant.

This is an excellent hotel, we had a villa which was so spacious as we are away for an extended time we have lots of bags. I cannot praise the staff enough, from reception, bar and restaurant to housekeeping, everyone was great, even let me check out late for no cost when our trip plans got changed at the last minute

Stayed for one night at the Distinction Te Anau. The room was clean, but a bit dated. Bathrooms looked recently upgraded/remodeled. The property is right on the lake and we had a nice lakeside view. Staff at the property were friendly and attentive. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from most of the restaurants although there are a few right next door. My stay offered free breakfast, and it was quite a nice breakfast spread. There was toast, pancakes, oatmeal, fruit, eggs (scrambled and boiled eggs), multiple juices, etc. and coffee. There were also decent little pastries. Their coffee was also pretty good. Usually hotel coffee for these types of things is pretty bad. If you are looking to go to Milford Sound a nice option is to stay in Te Anau for 1 or 2 nights and get the tour from here. The tour cost is substantially lower and you don't have to do the entire bus drive (5 hours ish from Queenstown) in one day which is a very long drive. Overall a good experience.
