Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
We booked afternoon tea with overnight stay. The place was very clean but some areas were quite dated, bathrooms and general toilets were modern & spotless. Staff were excellent; friendly and attentive. Food at teatime was lovely. The only two negatives was that some places were quite dark as using artificial candles, even receptionist struggled to see room number on the key when we were booking in. The other was afternoon tea was disappointing plus supposed to be with ‘Bubbles’. I have to agree with other customer negative reviews on the food. We were given one - under half filled glass of bubbly. When we asked if we could have another drink we were told we had to pay for it. This was a gift which I know was not cheap for what we received. Apart from this it was a good experience.
All I can say about this amazing hotel is that it’s simply wonderful. I was deeply impressed by the hospitality of the staff. The castle was so big that I got lost several times, but the staff kindly helped me each time. Even though I didn’t have a restaurant reservation, they still provided breakfast and dinner without any issue, and I’m truly grateful for that. I would definitely love to stay here again on a special occasion.
Great place fantastic architecture very quite great grounds staff very friendly and helpful

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Stayed for our Anniversary. Beautiful location. Reception staff friendly. Breakfast staff were amazing. Hairdryer packed up as cheap and no replacement. Bath panel Bradley marked and chipped. No biscuits with tea in room on arrival. Main restaurant very limited as set 7 course meal at £75 per person very expensive. Being able to explore the castle was a great bonus. Bath tubs with flowers in at entrance not fitting for grandeur of place. Would like to see brasserie open as bar during day. Perhaps a welcome drink for guests would be a nice touch.
Fantastic venue, room was stunning, staff were amazing. The only downside was the Wine Cellar bar was closed and we had been told to go to by friends. The 1851 Restaurant was superb, the food was top class.
All around, would recommend highly a visit.
Excellent check in, beautiful old castle room, comfortable stay & delicious breakfast, although a closer eye on hot food stocks would help - I ate breakfast in parts as no eggs out.
This property was one of a kind!!! Absolutely amazing!! Staying overnight in a castle, felt like royalty :) Ate at the brasserie, excellent food and service. Only down side, couldn’t turn heat on in our room, a bit cold
Walking through corridors in a castle was exciting!!
We were made to feei special from the moment we arrived. The staff throughout the castle were amazing. Always there to help us. The rooms were so comfortable and everything was high standards. The food we had was lovely. The breakfast we had included continental and cooked food. All gorgeous. I really cant fault this gorgeous place. I hope to return
The building is beautiful. I stayed in the Little Budworth room, the bed was very comfy and the room had old world charm with a beautiful view of the chapel.
I needed a phone charger and the lady on reception brought one up for me and would not take a tip, she was lovely.
I didn't see any facilities for room service, but that's not saying they didn't.
A unique venue in a quiet rural environment , quaint rooms, quality dining. Well worth a visit and definitely a fantastic venue for weddings and relaxing stays.
We stayed for one night that clashed with a taster event for couples with weddings booked or planned. Early evening we sat outside and struggled to get a drink.
The restaurant was excellent for dinner and breakfast, although running out of veg & the need for supplementary charges on menu even for coffee is strange.
Breakfast could of been warmer, the plate's on the first date were cold. Food quality was good.Food and plates were warm on the second day as we arrived at the very start of service. Minor complaint every thing else was excellent.
