Great location, beautiful grounds but rooms are in need of maintenance: The toilet seat does not fit properly, the toilet pan is cracked, the bath is not clean, the window blind does not work, the wallpaper is torn, the carpet is stained, and the windows can not be secured when open due to a broken latch. And...NO hot water!! (so no shower!) Breakfast was disappointing too as the coffee machine was broken and so was the toaster (so no toast)...

Lovely staff, very helpful . Our room was very nice, but a little bit tired and old-fashioned . That was a tear in one of the curtains and the French window onto the garden didn’t engage down at the bottom thus not locking properly alsowe had a lightbulb out on the wall lights behind the bed. Nothing to spoil the visit. It was taken on board at reception when we mentioned it on our departure. Also have to comment that one of our breakfast was not good for £20 per person. We did report this and they deducted it from the Bill. All in all , we enjoyed our three night trip and will return if we are in the area .

The AC in the conservatory where we held the wedding ceremony and meal was wholly inadequate. It was 27c outside and at least that inside. The main problem was underspecified AC units ( there were only 2 - probably needed 6). There was no roof blinds to shade us from the afternoon sun, so the venue got hotter and hotter. As a result the experience was very uncomfortable - inexcusable really as the Hotel Management must have always know this was a problem in the hot summers from previous years. The hotel did put out 2 domestic fans to help move the air, but with a wedding party of c60, it was about as useful as a chocolate tea pot. On the +ve, the venue was lovely, the grounds immaculate, staff friendly and attentive and the food excellent for what was a mass catering event. However, anything above 24c outside and that conservatory (the main dining / wedding venue) will become unbearably hot.

Excellent stay in an accessible room which was well equipped for people with limited mobility. Breakfast (on two mornings) was very good, although odd tasting sausage! In the bedroom a cupboard containg tea and coffee making facilities was designed such that a standing person would,, as i did twice, crack their head on a unprotected glass shelf above the beverage making facilities! This is really an obvious safety issue. Staff were very helpful and friendly. I would stay again when next in St Albans.

Staff were fantastic. We had to get moved out of our first room due to bad sewer smell from bathroom. The second room was dated, dilapidated. Shower door handle loose, rain shower head broken and sprayed everywhere. Cracked tiles on the step to the bathroom. Stain on carpet under desk, bed was so uncomfortable, it was like a mattress that most would throw out. Not sure why more money isn’t being spent on the “servant quarters” bedrooms as this place had a great reputation. Maybe some of the profits should be spent on updated this tired looking hotel. Doesn’t have to be modern, just made liveable.
