What's nearby

  • Spring Hill was the prelude to the Battle of Franklin. On the night of Nov 28, 1864, Gen. John Bell Hood’s Army of Tennessee marched toward Spring Hill to get astride Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield’s Union army’s life line. Cavalry skirmishing between Brig. Gen. James H. Wilson’s Union cavalry and Maj. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest’s Confederate troopers continued throughout the day as the Confederates advanced. On Nov 29, Hood’s infantry crossed Duck River and converged on Spring Hill. In the meantime, Maj. Gen. Schofield reinforced the troops holding the crossroads at Spring Hill. In late afternoon, the Federals repulsed a piecemeal Confederate infantry attack. During the night, the rest of Schofield’s command passed from Columbia through Spring Hill to Franklin. This was, perhaps, Hood’s best chance to isolate and defeat the Union army. The engagement has been described as “one of the most controversial non-fighting events of the entire war."

Staff was very friendly, room was clean. A few things missing that we’ve come to expect from former hotel stays in general… A coffee maker in the room, which wasn’t a big deal, since you’ve got an excellent breakfast downstairs. No trash can in the bathroom, Kleenex was in a ripped open plastic bag (just looks a little slack), no clock in the room (I realize everyone carries a phone but it’s nice to see time when I wake up at night) Biggest deal for us was no dresser with drawers to put clothing in when you stay a week (have to work out of a suitcase, no fun!) Otherwise a nice enough place

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, but there were a few things missing that would have made it a bit more comfortable overall. Namely a dresser with drawers for clothes so I don’t have to live out of a suitcase for a week. Which would also provide more of a tabletop to put things on. Other items noticed but not serious were no garbage can in the bathroom, the Kleenex was a plastic bag as opposed to a nice box, a bedside clock & this one is not necessary since you have a great breakfast buffet downstairs, but no coffee maker in the room. Just things we took note of, compared to other places. Still would rate it a great place to stay!
