My five-day stay at the InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin was wonderful. The hotel’s location put shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. I booked a one-bedroom suite that felt simply massive, with beautiful, bright décor and a lovely view of the garden and water fountain. The expansive gardens themselves were breathtaking. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, and because everyone spoke English, communication was effortless. Breakfast was outstanding, offering an impressive variety of both Chinese and Western dishes. The Executive Lounge was equally impressive—beautifully appointed, with a wonderful selection of teas and sweets during the day and a generous array of savory hors d’oeuvres in the evening. Overall, the hotel was exceptionally generous with food and drinks. I highly recommend the InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin and would gladly return.

This hotel is located in a great area within walking distance of the French Concession and it has a great buffet breakfast — the best out of the three hotels we stayed at in China in terms of variety and flavor across East and West. Many staff are English speaking, especially the concierge and the front desk, and were very welcoming, responsive, and helpful at all times. The property consists of several buildings, but it is easy to walk from one to another or take the buggy. The rooms are spacious but a little dated in terms of decor (dark wood) and the lighting is a little dim, but the beds were very comfortable and we loved the abundance of storage and great bathroom space. Overall, a great experience and value.

Historic landmark

Hidden gem in great neighbourhood. The rooms may be up for renovation soon, but they are still comfortable enough. Great place overall and a place of historical significance.

Art deco hotel in a middle of a peacefull garden

We got an upgrade to the executive wing, what a treat, thank you so much! The location is stunning, and the garden around the hotel gives a very peacefull feeling in the middle of the busy city. Very good breakfast, worth the money.

Really great hotel with a rich history in a convenient location. Appreciated the free shuttle inside the hotel complex during the summer heat. The room was spacious and well maintained. Gorgeous architecture and beautiful gardens. Glad we stayed here instead of one of those hotels in a skyscraper. Breakfast could be better.

Excellent hotel with garden park

The hotel is amazing. Not only in good location, but also there’s a quite big and very beautiful garden park. Walking around park , you will see several unique old buildings. All staffs are very helpful . One bedroom suite is spacious and clean. Club privileges are really beyond my expectations: there are lots of varieties of afternoon tea selection and happy hours food buffet selection . One time complimentary use Mini Bar for each stay . Anyway , I am impressed on the hotel and my family had very wonderful time during staying in the hotel . Very appreciated.

Oasis in the middle of the city

Ruijin hotel is one of the classic historical hotel in Shanghai located in one of the most prestigious addresses, the formal French concession. Despite the convenient location, it’s surrounded by green space in a park like environment, truly an oasis in the middle of large busy city. The staff is extremely polite, professional, and attentive. The rooms are classic, spacious, and large. The only slight disappointment the hotel restaurant, Xin yuan Lou. The restaurant is beautiful, with excellent service, but the food is below the quality of typical Shanghai restaurants.

Lacking Management

Quite a disappointing and bizarre experience for IC global standards. Hotel was a surprise given it’s size and beautiful gardens are right in the middle of Shanghai but service and cleanliness were poor. Felt like the place was being run by a lazy General Manager who had let things go.
