It was a unique layout for the rooms. A lot of things were broken in the bathroom and it was very tight in terms of space. Barely any room between the bed and the walls. Level of English amongst the staff was non-existent to average. The breakfast was quite bad as well as being incredibly busy and chaotic. I’m not sure how this place is rated as a 5 star hotel.

Excellent location next to Oscar Freire street, one of the nicest parts of the city. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff members are very helpful. Relatively good price / quality ratio, especially for this part of the city.

Lots of potential, service & details disappoint

Stayed here with friends for 2 nights and overall it was a good stay (room was comfortable and clean, large) with a few hiccups. First, we checked in at 2 different times and since it was all under my name, I was assured by the front desk that it would be ok if the rest of my group checked in without me and even provided all their names. Upon their arrival, they attempted to check in and were first told no one at the front speaks english. For a hotel of this chain and in this location that is very surprising. Luckily one of my friends understands portuguese and speaks spanish so they were able to get by. It took them an hour to check in because of the mess, and it really felt like the people at the front desk didn't know what they were doing (kept not giving them the correct rooms, etc.). Second, the shower not only is really low pressure, but the drain either isn't working or the floor is not level to allow the water to drain out. We showered at night and the next day there was still 1-2 inches of water in the shower sitting there. I let the front desk know and asked them to fix it and I came back later that day, showered, and the same problem occurred. Very disappointing. Breakfast was good, though also a problem with the service. Both days we had to ask multiple people to order something otherwise it would never arrive. Only real help was Diogo who helped with bags and provided info about amenities/facilities that the front desk did not!

The hotel is one of few options in the Oscar Freire area. It is a decent option but don’t have high expectations. The foyer and restaurant area is welcoming and in good condition but my room was dated and tired. The bedding had that clammy old feel to it, the paint was chipped, the drapes a bit damaged, the sink was plugged, and it was a generally old style 80’s/90’s decor and layout with single pane glass windows so there is outside noise. The good thing is that it is in a quiet area. All this would be fine, but presumably because of its location around the upscale Oscar Friere shopping district (a nice area for shopping and street cafes etc), it charges a higher price than a property of this nature would normally charge. If you’re OK with that, it’s not a bad option and oddly, despite these comments, I would stay there again. Just don’t have too high expectations. And, property managers, if you are reading this, please consider refreshing the bedding. It would make a big difference.
