Hotel Milan Costa Rica was very nice for the price, conveniently located in San Jose, and the free breakfast was very good. Walls are very thin but luckily most guests were quiet in their rooms and in the hallways.

This hotel is one of the nicer hotels here in downtown San Jose. The staff was outstanding. The room was great. I do recommend them. The only drawback I could see was that they didn’t have but one outlet to charge my phone with, and it was in the bathroom that was the only complaint I might’ve had other than that was perfect.

Pros: bus terminal around the corner, walking distance to central market, museums. Cons: ghetto area, homeless people, garbage in street, smells of urine outside area, extremely noisy inside/outside. Advised by local police not to walk around area after dark. On Tuesday morning March 10, 2026 I woke up with bites on back, arms, stomach and face. Asked staff to change bed linens which they did. Wednesday morning March 11, 2026 I woke up due to itching and discovered more bites on my thigh. I asked for a room change which they did. The manager emailed me respectfully that I should change my sleepwear as they have not had any issues with bedbugs since opening. After the insinuating and offensive email remark I Left 2 days earlier for another hotel.

We stayed at hotel milan as a transition from our flight to san jose, to our adventures outside of the city. The staff were very kind and friendly and accommodating to our two year old son. We were particularly happy with the maintenance worker, who went above and beyond his job to make our stay comfy, especially given that we have a small child. Thank you.

Friendly staff. A big shout out to Andres who has a wonderful smile. He helped us with directions and gave us pamplets of places to see. Also adviced on wearing our backpack in the front and being careful with our cell phones. The room could use a more thorough cleaning. Found a sock under the bed. My stay was otherwise comfortable.

You get what you pay for and this property was pretty underwhelming. The staff were the best part of the hotel, as they were accomodating and kind even when there was a language barrier. However, the room was very dated and linens / towels rather old and used. We had only one working plug (none of the USBs worked) and the bathroom was quite musty. The following day we lost power right after breakfast (which was good, I liked that it included breakfast) so it was unfortunate as we couldn't charge our devices. Granted, this wasn't the fault of the hotel. I think this is an acceptable place for a one night stay in transit to somewhere else (which is why we chose it). It's not too expensive and the location is close to the Central Market and Bus Station. But manage expectations as the rooms are old and you may not be that comfortable.
