The Sofia Hotel - San Diego Hotels
Rating: 3.5 Stars

The Sofia Hotel

150 W Broadway, San Diego - Map
"Great Location, but could use a little refinement"
The Sofia hotel was a perfectly acceptable hotel, except for a few hiccups. It is located in the Gaslamp District in San Diego and is very close to all the action on 5th street. The rooms are very comfortable, and well appointed, however there were a few things that kept this from being a great hotel. 1) We are Expedia Gold members, and while we don't expect an upgrade, we do look forward to whatever the special amenity is, and choose VIP hotels for this reason. Upon check it, we were not acknowledged as members, and given the room we had paid for. Upon getting to the room, we realized that there was no special amenity. We called the front desk to ask if we missed something and they said no. They offered to send some chocolates, but we told them it wasn't necessary. This started the visit off on the wrong foot. 2) Parking is crazy expensive and you can see where your car is parked. They keep them outside, so when it rained, our car was filthy. For expensive valet, you expect to be parked inside. 3) Some of the lights in the bathroom were not working, but that was fixed quickly. 4) We called for extra coffee packets, and they told us to come to the front desk as the coffee was there. I had to tell the front desk that we weren't ready for the day, and asked to send some up. She said she would see what she could find They were able to find some, but I thought that response was extremely odd.

"Face the Beach - Get a Smile"
My room was in the front (west) part of the hotel. It was amazing! I loved hearing the ocean, and loved the privacy of being on the end, by myself. Quiet balcony - right on the boardwalk. This was a much-needed short stay to just be by the water and in my favorite place on the California coast. Room was clean, nicely appointed - felt just right for the time. AND, I could walk wherever I wanted to go for food, for supplies, for shopping. Go won't be sorry.
