The Neon Elm was such a pleasant find! It’s definitely not your typical, traditional hotel, and that’s honestly part of what makes it so charming. The atmosphere is cozy, quaint, and inviting, with a unique character that makes the experience feel much more personal than a standard hotel stay. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and appreciated the comfortable, relaxed feel of the property. If you’re looking for something a little different from the usual hotel experience—somewhere with charm, personality, and a cozy atmosphere—The Neon Elm is definitely worth considering. I had a wonderful stay and would happily return!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Neon Elm, I was hesitant prior to booking as I was unsure how it would be to now have staff 24/7, however, the team was very responsive over instant message communications. I felt safe in the building at outside. The room was nice, as pictured, clean and spacious. Location very central in my opinion and I would absolutely stay here again.

Clean room. Not the greatest layout but it worked for our stay. No AC but the fan worked. We couldn’t figure out parking so we juggled street parking.

The staff on the app were very responsive which was nice since there was no onsite staff. We had a good experience. Wish there was parking, but we found street parking okay and it was free overnight. Just had to pay in the morning, but we could pay on an app every 2 hours so I didn’t have to actually leave our room to repay for parking. Not too bad, and not too expensive. Street parking was much easier than the structures they directed us to. The structures didn’t seem to do overnight parking, only per day (at least thats what one of them said) so highly recommend parking on the street.

The good: Pretty straightforward. Looks like the photos. Clean. Good for a solo trip. Very responsive staff. Great location, easy walk to Balboa Park and this great restaurant, Books + Records. There’s a microwave and fridge, which is great for heating up leftovers. Challenges: -There’s no elevator, so if you have a room on the second floor, you have to bring your bags up the stairs. The front desk attendant will help you if they’re there, but there isn’t always a front desk attendant. -No central AC. Window unit takes a while to cool the room down. -A lot of unhoused folks in the neighborhood. They’re mostly harmless, but ladies and femmes might get catcalled. Be alert. -Bed is uncomfortable.

Cute spot that might be a former university dorm convert, but legit it’s quite comfortable and crazy conveniently located. Super clean rooms, I had an attached bathroom which also was very nice and clean. The kitchenette is a great bonus. Some might not like how small the rooms are but I didn’t mind it one bit. I was in San Diego for an event so this ended up being a pretty ideal place to stay. No frills, exactly what I needed, in such a great spot. Cute local coffee shop nearby! Look into street parking but again I had no issues. Excellent stay.

While the room was small, it was nice and elegant. The bed was a very comfortable. Really liked bathroom with the rain shower head. Sent pics to someone and they said it was “very cute!!!” Would’ve like a larger bathroom sink but it was still very nice. Keurig was a nice addition to the fridge and microwave for kitchen amenities. Nice patio area with furniture and TV (watched World Cup). Patio also had a setup for beer pong and corn hole if you’re into that. Main issue is street parking is the only option for parking. All in all, enjoyed the room and the stay. Definitely would recommend.

For the price it’s an interesting experience, in a good way! A historic building yet the rooms felt like a cozy dorm room. Everything in that room felt like it was able to he reached within 10 steps. And the rooms are nicely remodeled. I would stay here again just due to the keypad code to enter the building and another code to enter the room. Very secure. While on-site parking isn’t available. We did not have any trouble finding street parking. We found a spot right outside without a parking meter and right outside our room. And were able to view it from our room too. Not to far from Gaslamp or the airport too.

The location is a perfect middle ground to the military bases, downtown activities, and the beach. Parking on the street is free 8pm-8am. There are different room sizes available so choose wisely. I chose a smaller room for my temporary stay. The room is so cute and overly clean. There is a fridge, microwave, smart tv, and a few other basic amenities. I definitely recommend this for your short or long term stays.

Great communication from the property owners. The check-in process was smooth, and I had no troubles. I got lucky with street parking:) Just as mentioned, expect some noise outdoors secondary to its location. My one small gripe is the bathroom had a ‘mildewy’ smell—but that probably comes from the plumbing and pipes in those types of buildings in general. Overall, would stay again:)
