3/5 – Decent Stay, But Room for Improvement
I'm not usually one to complain and generally try to enjoy the experience wherever I stay. I had spent the first part of my Brazil trip in São Paulo, where the hotel and amenities were excellent, which perhaps set my expectations a little higher for Rio.
The Royal Rio Palace wasn't a bad hotel, but there were a few areas that could be improved. The main issue was housekeeping. My room wasn't cleaned daily, and on more than one occasion I had to visit reception to request cleaning. The hotel was also very busy, with guests arriving at all hours of the night, which sometimes affected the overall atmosphere.
Breakfast offered a good selection, but the dining area was extremely crowded every morning, making it difficult to enjoy the experience. The gym equipment is quite dated and could benefit from an upgrade. I also found the steam room was only operating once during my entire stay.
Overall, I would rate the hotel 3 out of 5. It's in a good location and isn't a bad place to stay, but a few improvements to housekeeping, wellness facilities, and breakfast capacity would make a noticeable difference.
