I was on a trip through the area and traveling on Hwy 395. Ridgecrest is a bit off of the highway, and is close to the military base, but is a nice little town with all amenities that a traveler would need. Recommended.
Nice little town on the road to Squaw for skiing.

Typical sprawling desert town. Good family Mexican restaurant.
