The staff were good people, however because it was the off season , there were very little of them. The property is older, so although they do the best , they can, the owner needs to invest a little more money in the repair of certain appliances.etc. expedia over sold what was available.

Nice pool and staff, rooms are big with a nice view, however it's not mentioned anywhere that you have to drive on a gravel road for 3 kms to get here and there's no signal in the area which is not a huge issue since the WiFi works great. Included breakfast is very poor, otherwise if you pay for other options they have good food.

Large room...really an apartment. Beautiful view towards the beach. Can hear the surf at night. Friendly helpful staff. If you are expecting the Four Seasons...this is not the place for you. But a great location...quiet...miles of empty beach. Would happily stay here again.

In a country that is famous for the friendliness of the people, it seems hard to stand out - but the staff at Hotel Cocomar was outstanding! The current owners bought it about two years ago, and have been fixing it up. They were super hospitable and accommodating. Time after time they took an extra step to make our stay better

We were in a bit of shock when we reached Cocomar. The pictures must have been taken years back as the rooms were rather worn out. We had to pay extra to upgrade to a suite because our original room was tiny and rather depressing. The room was smelly - probably not aired out enough. Beds in the suite were good size but squeaky and one had a whole under the mattress fixed with a cardboard. Breakfast is part of the deal, however, it’s basically the same food (a plate with rice, beans, scrambled eggs, toast and 2 pieces of plantains) every morning, unless you order from the menu and pay for it. The ad promotes “a private beach”, which is true, it’s beautiful but it is not recommended to swim there due to strong currents. Big bummer as you have to drive 45-60 mins to Quepos. The pool are and the hotel surroundings are very well maintained. Wifi worked perfectly, the staff were really nice and friendly but didn’t speak much English.

Hotel Cocomar is not the ritz however your room is huge, clean and has a private beach directly in front which for the price is amazing! Staff is super friendly and helpful, but you need to ask for what you want. Property is dated and definitely needs upkeep, but for Costa Rica it is a little Gem. They have some resident stray dogs and cats who are super friendly but if you don’t like animals, maybe it’s not the place for you. Food and drinks were delicious! Highly recommend the nachos ;) The beach is beautiful but waves are crazy and could kill you! Wonderful to sit and watch the waves or walk the beach and find treasures. Beds were comfortable and there were some English movies. If you want a hot shower- do it first thing in the morning! The monkeys tend to visit the Java apple tree on the property in the late afternoon and give you a show. Full kitchen in the room if you want to make your own food. Overall we had a great relaxing stay, drove to Manuel Antonio and Jaco beach was close enough for day trips - also rainmaker park was lovely and close too. We recommend this hotel for those who enjoy a peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle - it’s tranquil and you can be at peace on the beach without anyone else around. If you can learn some basics in Spanish it will help you communicate with staff but they do speak English and will teach you some Spanish ;) Hotel Cocomar met our expectations and we hope others give it a chance as it deserves to be experienced.

We were at the beachfront suite. It was very spacious - it included a full-size kitchen, a living area, a separate dining area, and two jumbo patios. Totally king-sized. These are the plus points. My bathroom (#7) had an issue. The toilet bowl was not filling up .. was leaking. Every time I had to lift the lid, apply my DIY techniques, and fill up the water. The restaurant closes at 9:30 PM - that's not the best. Bar closes at 10 PM, again, not the best. The pool was open till midnight - great. We stayed there for just one night. We felt bad because we had very little time to enjoy the property. However, we realized later that the place had very little to offer. The property was in a very secluded place, with a pathetic approach road (dirt road). The beach was also not suitable for swimming -we were warned. As long as you want to stay in the property and enjoy the property, this gets a thumbs up from me. If you are like me, who wants to stay put in a happening place, it's not optimal.

if you can afford to stay somewhere else, stay somewhere else - i considered staying in my car over this place. this hotel is well below average and absolutely does not deserve anything above a 2 star rating. * off the beaten path: far from everything, renting a car is a must, the driver charges a lot of money and only accepts cash, taxis and ubers don’t come here * disconnect from reality: has wifi, but we lost power overnight which meant no wifi, no ac, no ability to contact anyone including people who work here * staff is friendly: probably the only positive i have regarding this hotel, but it appears no one is here overnight, they have a very young front of the house staff, and learn some spanish because they know little english * rooms are meh: big, has a fine bed, water is freezing to shower in, found a roach crawling around, will get cleaned upon request and when requested, there’s a 50/50 chance they’ll clean it * beach is beautiful: black sand beach which is cool, public and across the street, few plastic beach chairs that feel like they might break underneath you, not good for swimming * dog friendly: including strays which may sit right outside your door and bark all night long costa rica is beautiful and if you’re staying at this hotel, you’ll see a lot of it because you will want to be here as little as possible.

This hotel was amazing! Without a rental car, trips added up quickly- it is far from everything!!! The beach was empty, stunning, and wellmaintained. The staff were super kind & helpful. I would recommend staying here if you want a laid back trip! Macaws flying around were so pretty (and loud!) we also saw parrots, iguanas, and many other animals! Restaurant was good, it is a bit limited menu, but everything we ate/drank was delicous (Guanabana drink was hard to top!).
