Don’t recommend

Receptionist was a very friendly and helpful. Room was very small. No hotel parking so we were able through hotel to pay for street parking.there were gnats on shower ceiling. There was only shower gel and a small hand soap. The best part of stay was there was a tea kettle and plenty of tea. The harbor, shopping and restaurants are approximately 15 minute walk.

Decent reasonable overnight stay

A decent, cozy, basic cottage to crush before moving on to something else. Serves the purpose and the price is very reasonable.

We stayed two nights at Duke of Buckingham. We found the top floor rooms very small and very challenging to transport our luggage up the many steep steps and stairways. We are two couples travelling for 5-6 weeks so have a case each. We knew there were no meals onsite. Several restaurants within easy walking distance, and a large multi food option shopping centre a good walk away. Beds were very ordinary. Pillows need to be replaced as truly unacceptable. Linen appeared fresh along with towels. Rooms did look like there had been some refurbishment, but it was still in need of some new furnishings. Parking was for a fee to have use of a permit to park on the street. We found the lack of access to parking to unload close to hotel very challenging but did appreciate the ability to have a park within a couple of streets of the venue.

We were a 2 couples with 2 rooms given rooms on the third floor(top), and the rooms did not meet the description on the website. It indicated 5m2 for each room. Neither would have been that size! One room had window that would not close. Both rooms were very disappointing from comfort, including the pillows and the bed. We have large suitcases as travelling for 5-6weeks in UK, and the access and stairwell was very unsafe for transporting our luggage to and from the rooms. The location was good, within walking distance to eateries and shopping, and areas of historic interest. Rooms were reasonably cleans, and we expected some dust and dirt as an old building. The parking availability, even with the paid permit. was not within easy walking distance for transporting luggage. We were grateful to have accommodation in Portsmouth wharf vicinity.

The TV wasn't working but they managed to sort it for our second night. Accommodation very compact but ok if you are only using it as somewhere to put your head down after a busy day exploring.

(Was jabauch i.O. ist).

The rooms have no sound isolation at all. We could hear absolutely everything happening in the rooms next to us and the hall. Besides that, basic rooms, clean but old.

Room 19.

We got the 'infamous' shed, but it wasn't that bad at all, actually I prefered it that way! No neighbours, can run out for a smoke and no need to be antsy whilst trying to get to your room. BUT despite the opened window it smelled damp, luckily not mouldy, and the bathroom door needs to be changed ASAP- the next morning you couldn't even close the door as it was warped so bad and then my partner closed it from the outside and we couldn't get it back open- my phone and watch were in there after a shower! Luckily managed to open it by using keys to wedge it out and were running short on time to inform the staff at that moment. Also be prepared for, as we call it, the portsmouth famous sinks- slim rectangles :D The shower is a bit confusing so you have to stand in cold water until you figure it out. And the noise is unavoidable by people taking bins out and the window being open, so prepare some earplugs beforehand.👍 Also some old coffee stains (i hope) on walls that desperately need a fresh coat of paint. The staff were lovely though, I enjoyed it, especially when you can pay £5 for a late check out which was sorely needed xx, oh and parking- never figured it out but we parked down the street in Grand Parade carpark, it cost around £16 per day but it was quite nearby anyways. Oh and the bed was nice too, you get whole 4 pillows which I'm so grateful about!

Tiny.

£95 for a tiny room ok it was a Saturday night but I would have been disappointed to pay £30. So small I could touch both walls with my arms outstretched. Shower and toilet room was tint as well. Not really a hotel more a place with rooms. Good location and staff were nice but could not recommend.

Small stuffy rooms with no A/C and the owner can't spring for even a moderate fan. The bathroom and shower are shared. The owner can't spring to even fix the shower head which becomes a factor when one is trying to be as quick as possible in a bathroom shared with guests from 5 other rooms. Spend 20 pounds and fix the shower at least.

Disturbed sleep

The location is great. The insulation is very poor, i could hear the neighbours room the noise from the TV. The mattress is terrible, needs replacing as it was a little lumpy and bump so I couldn't get a good night's sleep for 3 days. The room was ok, the bathroom was very small just enough room for a shower and a toilet. It is walkable distance to the main historical area, the defence walls, the beautifu houses and the pubs on Spice Island so that was a bonus.
