I booked the shoebox and it was a decent sized space for one person. The twin sized bed was comfortable and the bathroom was decent sized. There’s no chair, so I did have to sit on the bed to do everything. That’s the only issue with the room I had. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Housekeeping left the sweetest note and had the radio on the jazz station which really set the vibe. Definitely book a reservation with Panama for brunch and with Tope for dinner. You won’t be disappointed.

The electric kettle in the room was broken and the air conditioner made a loud dripping noise all night. But the hotel was cute, staff were helpful, and we had a good breakfast the next day. Not really worth the exorbitant parking fee or additional $30 hotel fee charged. But it has potential.

When we arrived at our room, we quickly realized that the air-conditioning unit was broken. It was an 85° day or so. After reporting it to the staff, we were quickly upgraded to a nicer room with a better city view (and of course, a working air conditioner) and given a complimentary bottle of champagne without having to ask for an upgrade for our troubles. As someone who is interested in hospitality, I’ve read a lot of books on the subject. From what I understand, this was Ritz-Carlton level service, kindness, and hospitality. Not only did we get the upgrade without asking, but they didn’t seem annoyed or make us feel like we are a burden because of something that was out of our control, which I’ve come to expect from some other stays as a fairly frequent recreational traveler. Sure, it would have been great to not unpack, repack, move rooms, etc., but the service to make up for the issue significantly outweighed the negative aspects. ALSO, the corner room facing east above the archway is a really nice view.

While the surrounding neighborhood has a visible homelessness issue, the hotel compensates with an excellent rooftop featuring great tacos and impressive views.
