The property is a historic casa de indianos with genuine character and potential, but our two-night stay fell below the expectations created by the very flattering Expedia photographs.
Comfort was the main issue. The mattress had a plasticized protector that trapped heat and made noise whenever we moved, and our room had neither a fan nor air conditioning. Numerous artificial air fresheners made the room so heavily scented that we removed them. The toilet is open to the bedroom, offering little privacy, and its low-water flush often required several attempts. The faucet also sprayed excessively.
Sound insulation between rooms is limited. Light sleepers should also know that the village church bells are clearly audible and, during our stay, began around 4 a.m., ringing before and again on the hour. Earplugs are advisable.
There are also many printed rules and signs taped throughout the property, which creates a more regulated than welcoming atmosphere. Some furnishings and textiles appeared worn, including a visibly frayed breakfast tablecloth.
Miyares is tiny, with no immediate shops or services, so a car is essential. Our room had no refrigerator/minibar either.
The house has character, but guests should not rely solely on the photographs when deciding whether to book. Many shortcomings could be addressed with relatively simple improvements.
