“The room was clean but very small and very hot. It was so small I hit my head very hard on the bay window surround twice overnight. The staff were helpful and the food was very good.”

“The accommodation is very clean, free hot drinks while we stayed and staff very nice, it could do with a lick of paint in certain areas. The location is amazing for walking to both Grasmere and Ambleside. We went to the local pub to watch the badgers. The grounds of Rydal Hall are beautiful and include the grot and a waterfall, Would stay again.”

“We much enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Fantastic location and great walks from the door. Also not as busy as many other parts of The Lakes. Hotel was very comfortable and staff friendly and helpful. Good breakfast and we ate in the hotel a couple of nights. Food was very good though menu a little restrictive if you were staying more than two or three nights intended to eat in the hotel throughout your stay. We’d definitely return.”

“The reason I haven’t scored 5 is that Expedia sold us a room that had issues with noise / cooking smells as it’s above the kitchen and is noisey and smelly when the staff are cooking. We stayed in a room named Helvellyn and Expedia didn’t state any issues with any rooms. If we had booked direct with the queens head it details the room helvellyn as having issues with noise etc due to it’s proximity to the kitchen. I think Expedia have been misleading not detailing the facts about that particular...

“I so want this place to succeed! It’s in the most picturesque village, but needs some TLC after a string of management changes. New team comes in August. The bedrooms are clean, small, very comfortable and well designed. Current staff are lovely, but they’re leaving in 2 weeks.”
