Good hotel

Decent hotel a little old, very quiet and clean, wifi good, good breakfast. Plenty bars restraunts close by, entrance to car park tight parking out front on main road but parking spaces go quick, definitely would stay again.

We were very happy with the accommodation at the Bruce Hotel, given that there were some mixed reviews. Roma are large and beds comfortable.

I don't like to give poor reviews unless absolutely necessary - it's hard for small businesses / hospitality right now - but potential customers do need to be warned over The Bruce. We had Room 5 - the family room, it was really poor - dirty, in disrepair (I don't mind old if it's clean!) and the bed was the worst I've ever seen - the mattress was so stained, and it was so uncomfortable it was awful (the two singles were not as bed) - the bathroom was derelict - we booked for two nights but could only manage one and didn't stay for the breakfast (which Expedia stated was free but on arrival that wasn't the case - reception baling Expedia for this). The staff were OK - when I left I mentioned the room and the chap on reception apologies and agreed it's bad - he said "we tell the owner all the time but he doesn't care". We feel totally cheated - maybe the other rooms are better, but find somewhere else to stay in my view.

Very run down and tired. Everything in the room was past its best or broken. Bed was dreadful, very thin old sprung mattress, felt every lump! No bar, no restaurant, no beer garden. Breakfast was the only plus point.

Rather basic, unhelpful manager when we asked for short (30min) extension to checkout time. Room - whole hotel really - lacking charm, pretty shabby, broken down. Breakfast little choice but adequate.

Should be about £40 a night. Really run down place, needs a lot of work and felt unclean. Would be fair enough if it was priced accordingly but £73 a night is way off compared to what can be had elsewhere for that sort of price. I guess there are limited options in the town though so it’s a captive market. I would definitely avoid unless you have no choice or can negotiate a reasonable price.
