This is my second time staying at The George. Whilst it may be a little tired round the edges, and not the most polished of places to stay. It does have very friendly staff, and does serve great beer! I'm sure I will be back again next time I am working in the area. I would rather stay in a 'real pub' than a modern over polished replica like many pubs have become these days. Yes It would be nice if the TV was a bit bigger, and yes it would have been great to have an ensuite (some rooms do have them, others have a private bathroom down the corridor) but that isn't the end of the world. They dont serve food, but there are other places within an easy walk to get food from. If you want somewhere simple (with a comfortable bed), very friendly staff, and a great couple of pints, you could do a lot worse than staying here. And the prices are also very reasonable for the room, and the refreshments!

The hotel is old and shows its age. A steep staircase rises to the rooms. There are signs of poor maintenance, stained carpets and a need for redecoration.The beds were clean and comfortable and, lights, TV, WiFi and the hot drinks kettle all worked well. The room was quiet despite being on the street side. The pub stays noisy until late on Saturday night. There are nice cafes nearby for breakfast and the location is central to the town for shops and the delightful Newnt lake park

Centuries-old pub with loads of character, good beer selection, friendly staff, smooth check-in and a big room (even had a bath) overlooking the quirky, historic High St. Parking outside, cafes, shops, post office, all within yards.

a visit to Newent

The George is a pleasant, old fashioned hotel which, while lacking some of the facilities of such places as Holiday Inns or Travelodges, is comfortable and friendly and very popular with the locals. The staff are very helpful and co-operative. It is ideally situated in the centre of Newent We would certainly stay there again if in Newent.

The room is very tired and quite dirty. Bathroom was disgusting, thick dust and grime on lower shelf and lower toilet system. Bin was thick with dust on top. Shower unit looked so old and grimey we didnt use. The toilet did not flush properly. The staff however were really friendly. No food available.
