Overall a pleasant stay

Great stay overall. The place is newly renovated. Pub meal was great and staff were very pleasant. Only downfall was that the king-size bed was two singles put together, which made for an uncomfortable sleep as a couple.

The room was a newly renovated pub room. Clean and fresh and comfortable. Shared facilities and no TV in room but excellent value for the quick trip to Newcastle. Nice pub and bistro. WIll stay again when in town.

My second 1-night stay with you - just such a convenient and simple place for a quick stopover. Simple and inexpensive option. Friendly staff. Pub grub great, plus good coffee across the road and other dining options. See you next time!

Room is not as advertised. Boiling hot and the airconditioner does not work, bathrooms are communal and the fan does not work.

Didn't stay for the night as we could not find a close parking space. Main problem is with Wotif, who did not give detailed specifics; culminating in a non-refund. The General Roberts Hotel looked good, from the photos, which is why we chose it for a one night stay. Will not use Wotif again. When I phoned the Hotel to cancel the room, staff were friendly and understanding. Above ratings based on photos and what the property looked like as we drove nearby.

I was very disappointed to see that my room didn’t have a bathroom. This was not advertised on the page and the place smelled like cigarettes and fry food. People from the other rooms were very noisy, banging on the doors and screaming.

Decent stay for the price. The bed was kind of stiff so not the most comfortable. There were some cleanliness issues in the room, there was a terrible smell in the room and the cushions on the bed were stained. The shared bathrooms were clean though. The room faced the main road with no AC so it was loud in the room if you wanted to have a breeze, otherwise the room was very stuffy. Staff was nice, and the food at the pub was good! Worth it for the price but could be slightly cleaner.

The assistant manager Zac was very welcoming. Need some new heaters as the heater provided hardly kept out room warm. A kettle would've been good also. Nearly fell over when we asked for chips,cheese & gravy from the bistro & they wanted to charge $19. A bit steep on the price.

Not much room around the bed, (a king size bed in that room probably not a good idea) which made it difficult for my partner who has problems with his hips and legs. Thought there would of been atleast a small TV to watch while relaxing after a long trip but nope😩 Shared bathrooms where nothing flash but where clean and tidy too

Room was too hot to sleep, luckily we brought a portable fan with us as the fan in the room was useless as the proverbial. Had to open the windows to let the breeze in and the noise from the pub came in through the windows. Doors sqeaked constantly and kept hearing doors slamming all night. The staff were very friendly, just had issues with the room.

To be blunt you get what you pay for and the room is cheap so keep that in mind. I had the king size suite king size bed. 2 single beds pushed together does not make it king size im average 6ft and my feet hang over the edge, no aircon just a fan from the 80s that doesnt do anything or move any air a window opens only slightly with no flt screen so bug city when open. No fridge they have a kettle and 2 cups but no coffee or spoons, the glasses in the batheroom had not been cleaned from the last guest. Pretty awful and cheap but you get what you pay for, in this day and age spend $1000 put in a new fan and tv and fridge and the rest can be forgiven.

Staff that greeted me gave great customer service both before I arrived and on arrival. Unfortunately when I booked I didn't realise the bathroom was shared. It didn't say this when I booked and I've since been in to double check. The image showing looks like an ensuite bathroom. If i had known this I wouldn't have booked. Other than that it did the job for the night. I arrived late and left early in the morning so was only wanting a bed for the night. Would have been good to have a kettle tea/coffee in the room but I suppose that's what you get for the price.
