We spent three nights at the Lodge. It is an excellent base for exploring Tongariro. Our room was very comfortable and the lodge had a laundry and drying room. Breakfasts were very good. We came to hike in the park and when we had a 100% rain and fog day, we were so happy to have such a comfortable home away from home for downtime. We stayed in one of the new cabins and it had everything we needed. The bonus was the resident cat Lucky who we met up with a few times during our stay. This is the best place to make your base, if you’re planning a “crossing”. Between the impeccably clean newly constructed cabin suites, the continental breakfast with delicious house fresh baked bread to warm at your convenience, in your fully stocked kitchen. To the real fresh ground beans to brew in your cabins French press! Everything you need, is provided, to head out early at your own pace. Alas, we were rained out, as a big storm swept through the area, and we had to satisfy ourselves with a few smaller hikes. But when the weather permits and we can return, we’ll surely choose to stay here again. Run by a very nice and helpful couple who can answer any questions you have about the Park and its many hikes. This is truly a wonderful place to stay. Highly recommend.
