This was our 4th stay at the Mount Lavinia.
We always stay here on each trip to Sri Lanka. Prior to this trip, we hadn’t been back in 10 years. A lot has changed!
It is still a truly magnificent historical building, and the location is quite breathtaking.
The breakfast buffet is excellent, with everything from a full English breakfast to European, Indian and traditional Sri Lankan fare.
The pool area is also still lovely.
Having acknowledged these things, the overall maintenance of the building was very poor. Many things have fallen into disrepair.
Our room, for example, smelled of mould. The fridge did not work, the telephone for room service was broken. The whole room required a deep clean, fresh paint work etc.
Clearly there are financial issues or the upkeep would have been carried out. It is a true shame.
Service was hit and miss. Sometimes excellent, other times completely non existent.
After being a major draw card for us in our visits to Sri Lanka, sadly, now, we won’t be returning.
