Very nice hostel in a wonderful location. Everything in Mount Cook Villaga is walking distance... no need for a vehicle when there. Property is very well kept and staff are present for most of the day. Everything you could need at your finger tips.
I loved my stay at Haka house Mt cook! I stayed in an 8 bed dorm room and found it to be very comfortable. The lockers were big and beds felt really private. Clean shower rooms and toilets. Kitchen was well equipped. The views right outside are absolutely stunning!
Hostel itself is very clean, excellent staff, workable kitchen, etc. The only down side is that it’s a short drive or a long walk to most trailheads & of course any other loud/inconsiderate guests. The place is great though!
Excellent place to stay in Aoraki Mt Cook Nat'l Park with beautiful views and plenty of amenities. We appreciated the on site laundry, lounge areas, and the sauna!
Dining options are limited in the park (~3 restaurants). Even though they're all good, you may want to plan ahead and bring groceries to take advantage of the communal kitchen area at the hostel.
Helpful and friendly staff keep everything clean and tidy. We loved our experience here!
Easy access to most hiking area, amenities clean and comfortable, friendly staff, affordable. The noise level is way too much though. It's expected on shared rooms/ accomodations, however, banging of doors and conversations of the next door occupants can still be heard past 11pm.
Location is wonderful. There are no many options for budget travelers around Mt Cook. Yet it is worth to visit. Staff are friendly. Price are competitive.
Newer and larger building compared to the Queenstown location we stayed at! Really comfy mattresses and the rooms had a mini fridge and plenty of hooks and hangers. The kitchen was very large and the hostel was very clean. Walls are a bit then but no issues with ear plugs!
Clean and seemed to be well managed. Stayed two nights in an 8 bed dorm. Deducted one star as the internet wasn't working for a few hours the first morning.
I had a late check in and I forgot to let them know but luckily then left the key with my name on it in an envelop. The place was very clean. It looks new and simple. Staff were nice. I will be back for sure.
Room description was inaccurate- there was zero air conditioning available in the rooms. The only option were fans/heaters that did not work properly, or open the windows which resulted in freezing temperatures overnight. Bathrooms got incredibly dirty quickly in the mornings, but overall stay was ok with a great location and a good restaurant next door.
Hala house is beautiful , we booked a private room with two twin beds. Staff was kind and had a packet waiting for us for late check-in. Plenty of parking. Facility is nice and clean
Room was clean and nice. The views from outside our window was stunning
I’m giving them a 4/5 instead of a 5 because of a few sticks in the mud :
1) the shared bathroom across from our room. I actually liked the design they have the toilet and shower separate , however the shower room door and lock sticks and I didn’t know that ,and I was stuck in there for a good five minutes trying to get out… the next day when my partner went to shower I forgot to tell him ( I’m horrible I know ) and the same thing happened. Also the shower drain was clogged so you had to slow your shower down to a trickle while you stood in an inch and a half of water
No complimentary coffee/tea: I know this is a silly thing to get stuck up on, but coffee is my elixir of life. We got there late and didn’t have time to pick any up, there were not any packets in our room so I went downstairs to look for some, they had a machine in the lobby but you had to pay over three dolllars a cup and it was broken and wouldn’t work. I think some packets of complimentary tea or coffee is a small gesture to guest that goes a long way for them
Overall pretty good stay. Mt cook is stunning and there is so much to see there

Disappointing stay.
This was rated as a 4 star hotel on hotels. com and on arrival it turned out to be a backpacker hostel with shared shower and toilet facilities. Not something that was evident when booked. TV didn't tune to channels, no facilities within the room, WiFi was poor and no breakfast available.
The room, however, was clean and well kept but the hostel was noisy.
Left very early, very disappointed.
