I was happy with the room. The hotel is located across from a little square. There was not a lot of car or foot traffic outside. The location is good for visiting the Ciudad Vieja. I was also able to walk to the Buquebus which goes to Buenos Aires.

Amazing value

A unique property that has history and aristocratic elegance that will really enhance your visit to Uruguay and expand your understanding of the country. It even has a library for lingering and browsing! One of the very best and most memorable stays in our 30-year travel history to 40+ countries.

We had such a lovely 4 night stay at the beginning of our Uruguay trip that we returned for our last night in Montevideo, same room with rooftop terrace. Didn’t try the hot tub. Breakfast is fantastic and all served in various antique china plates & cups in a beautiful breakfast room. We had tea & coffee served in the 1st floor library room filled with books ( some in English) and games. Staff very friendly, helpful and fluent in English. Do visit the museum across the street ( free admission/but donations appreciated) easy walk to restaurants, cafes & Mercado Puerto

What a gem!

What a wonderful gem! The hotel is beautifully restored historic building with many original features preserved together with addition stunning additions in furnishings & lighting & plants. Each room is named for an important historical person, we stayed on top floor 5th with a terrace overlooking the street & diagonally the park in one direction & waterfront in the other. Each & every staff member attentive, helpful & friendly. Beds comfy everything neat & clean. There’s even a library room on 1st floor we had tea brought to us there & read some of the books there as well. Breakfast was included and a real treat! All served in lovely original china plates, bowls and small cups but plenty of refills. We are coming back!

Expensive but special

A gem of a place. Perfect hotel. Clean, quiet, spacious, excellent breakfast with cappuccino, which is very rare here. Jacuzzi on the roof and a special café.

This hotel is a surprise. It has the feel of Old Uruguay. The building has been nicely renovated. Each room has a theme and is well appointed. Everything was clean and well maintained. Beautiful library for relaxing and dining room for breakfast. The included breakfast was great and very ample. Close walking to major sites in historic center and close the port for ferry and restaurant options. Would stay here again.

Beautiful hotel in the old town

Welcoming service, excellent breakfast in a comfortable, stylish boutique hotel. The location was perfect for walking the city and seeing many of the sites. We would return and recommend Alma Historica to anyone.

Alma Histórica is a wonderful little hotel in a quiet neighborhood in the old city. Each room is themed and unique. There are restaurants and shopping within walking distance, and there is limited parking on the street. The staff are wonderful and super helpful, and I can’t say enough about them. It’s near the port and the Museo del Carnaval, so if you are there during Carnaval season, you can walk to see the tablados.

The property itself was very clean, well maintained and had very friendly staff. The area around the hotel in general was very run down, dirty and felt unsafe at night. Many people warned us about walking around after dark. During the day walking around was ok.
