This is not the first time we have stayed at Camino Real hotels; the hotel in Monterey did not disappoint. The location is great with lots of options to eat and access to the best city's attractions. The staff was attentive, and the food available at the restaurant was acceptable. The rooms could use some freshening up, but the beds were comfortable

AC was not functioning properly. Temperature in the room was above average and during the mid day felt well above average. Rooms are not equipped with ceiling fan nor small fridge to keep drinks cool. Had trouble with the key not working and they kept sending me up and down saying they activated my key card and still did not work. Had to have bellman open my door each time I came and went.

First, I would like to sincerely thank the hotel staff and the manager. Most of them were courteous and professional, and we appreciated their efforts to help us during our stay. We traveled to attend the World Cup and chose your hotel for its convenient location next to the shopping center, which was important for our family. Upon arrival, there was no air conditioning in the lobby, and we were informed there had been a power issue affecting common areas, while rooms were expected to be functioning normally. We had reserved 2 rooms. 1 had maintenance issues, including a loose AC thermostat and a damaged lampshade, so we requested a room change. The replacement room also had inconsistent AC. The manager was very understanding and offered to move us to another hotel. However, by that point we had already unpacked and, due to our schedule, decided to stay there.Throughout our 6-night stay, the air conditioning worked intermittently. While it functioned at times, several nights were warm and humid, making it difficult to rest comfortably. I also shared with the manager that I have asthma and that heat and humidity can affect my breathing. I returned home with bronchitis. While I understand this may not be directly related, the conditions didn't help. In addition, the pillows were quite uncomfortable and the towels pilled every time we used them. We are grateful for the efforts made by the staff but we sincerely wish we had enjoyed a more comfortable and memorable stay.

The biggest issue was the check-in process. Andryk was extremely stubborn and unhelpful, making what should have been a simple arrival unnecessarily frustrating. The attitude felt dismissive and rigid, with no willingness to assist or find solutions. Definitely not the level of service you expect, especially at a hotel like this. Fortunately, Mr. Ernesto completely turned things around. He was professional, attentive, and genuinely focused on resolving the situation. Thanks to him, the experience improved significantly. Staff like Ernesto make a real difference and reflect what hospitality should actually feel like. On the positive side, the hotel does honor Expedia VIP Gold perks, which I appreciated — I received a room upgrade and complimentary breakfast without issues once things were handled properly. The facilities are also very nice — clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. Overall, the hotel has great potential, but service consistency is key. If it weren’t for Ernesto stepping in, this would have been a very poor experience.

Booked a 2night stay and my flight got cancelled the 1st night. Had to call 6 times in order to let them know I was checking in until the next day. Also asked if by any chance I could cancel that night to which they declined; which I understood as it was the airlines fault. Next day at noon I arrived, no issues checking in and got my upgraded room for being a Gold member. Ran straight to shower for my Dr. appointment and found the toilet base COMPLETELY covered in urine. I called the front office and ask to please send someone to clean it as I would want to use it before leaving to the Dr’s; no apology or surprise came from the receptionist and said she’d send someone. 2 hours and 20 mins go by and no one came. I was astonished. As I leave my room, I find a housekeeper 2 rooms down; ask if she was informed about my room needing maintenance; she said no one notified her but would gladly clean it for me. Came down to the front desk to tell them no one had come to clean, I would need to speak to the manager, and a room change wasn’t necessary as I was not even spending 24hrs. I came back a couple of hours later and spoke to “manager” who had the nerve to tell me it was the liquid they use to clean the toilets. I showed her the picture and told her no one would believe her excuse and how frustrated I was at not only the dirty toilet but their lack of attention to this issue. Her solution was free breakfast; told her I leave at 5am. Director of the hotel hasn’t called me as of yet
