The Carmel River Inn had a lot of construction equipment and supplies around the hotel, in fact when we drove in I was "put-off" by the exterior and surrounding area, but when I walked into the lobby it was very warm and inviting and the staff very friendly. The room appeared to have had some recent upgrades: new carpeting, paint, and patio door although some of the furniture and fixtures could've used an upgrade too. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had a small balcony with outdoor seating with a view of the river. There is a busy road nearby so you do hear traffic on the balcony. We did not hear it in the room. Beds were comfy and the room was clean. A very good value for the price. I would stay there again.
