We were traveling for wedding on Friday and we attended the rehearsal dinner on Thursday at Lakeside at the Welch Estate about 16 miles from the hotel. Didn't really have much time to visit Midlothian or nearby sites.

Excellent area for visiting family - easy to find restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Very pleasant accommodations.

The check-in experience was terrible. The lady there didn’t even acknowledge us for 5 minutes when we got there, when she did finally come to the counter, she was on a personal call in her AirPods the ENTIRE check-in, which took 40 minutes.
