Matapouri beach is a long stretch of sand with clear turquoise water. Walk along the beach to the end then into the water to walk around a rocky outcropping to reach the last bit of beach. From there it’s a 20 minute walk up and over a hill to reach the Mermaid Pools. Deep blue tide pools that you can swim in, worth the extra work to get there.
