  • Today was our first #lksawaydays of 2020 #ukoutandabout We left Reading and headed out to the Wiltshire village of Avebury to have a walk around the Neolithic henge, visit the museum and have some lunch in the Red Lion. Its been over 20 years since the LKs last visited so were looking forward to re-visiting. There are no charges to walk amongst the stones which make up the largest megalithic stone circle in the world, but there are separate charges for the museum and the Avebury Manor. The main car park is £4 for the day but not very big considering the volume of visitors Avebury sees, so if you visit we would suggest outside peak months. The purpose of the the stone circle is unknown but its believed to be a ritual complex, the site is a sacred site to the contemporary Pagans and if you are lucky on your visit you may see Druidic rites taking place. Its a pleasant half day and if the weather is a little moody it can add to the visit too! #avebury #aveburystones #stones #stonecircle

Checking in and out was nice and simple. Room was very good and spotlessy clean. Comfortable bed. The only let down was breakfast which was a bit dry and overcooked. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Parking was great, in a town where it is notoriously difficult. Would be happy to stay again.

Nice Old Coach House Hotel

Plenty of spaces in the free car park, quick smooth checkin, nice room, comfortable bed. Bar area nice to have a drink could have better selection of ales and lagers. Dinner and breakfast was really nice in the restaurant area. We were part of a large group the lady on reception was really helpful nothing was too much trouble. Woukd happily stay here again if in the area.

Historic property in the centre of Marlborough. Very convenient for the town and a good base to explore the local area. Food was good and staff helpful although they were busy. Room was well equipped and only thought was that it was looking a bit tired decor wise. Very comfy bed so no complaints. Would definitely stay again.

Very picturesque, old hotel. Good food and selection of drinks in the bar, staff friendly and helpful. The room was a good size and comfortable, although I'm not sure 4 people could stay for long in it. However, the floorboards in the room creaked whenever you walked on them and the fan in the bathroom was the loudest I've heard in a long time! Important if, like me, you're up to the toilet during the night and your partner is sleeping. Certainly full of character!

Tired Hotel

Hotel needs some love and refreshing, carpets taped up in bar/restaurant area and some of decor could do with a touch up. On the plus side the Breakfast was great the hot food cooked to order was really good
