“I was really looking forward to my stay at The Candlesticks. However as soon as I entered, I began to have my doubts. The bar area, where the owner received us, looked particularly shabby and it smelt musty. It was 3pm (an hour after checking-in should have started) and the room wasn't ready. It wasn't such a big deal, but it was another warning sign. I was in a single room, which made a certain saying about a cat spring to mind. “Breakfast was really good, staff were all very nice and helpful. Our room was very tired looking and needs modernising, if not a least fresh paint, carpet, curtains, linen. Our cold water tap didn't work. I told reception and asked for additional water, which they agreed but we didn't receive any. The shower was over the bath, and didn't work well, one minute you would get a blast of cold water and the next really hot. Bathroom definitely needs to be updated. The pool was good, however...
