Our stay at Carana was great. The staff is the most friendly and helpful that we have ever met. Very welcoming and helpful. Fresh fruit from the garden for breakfast and the avocado from the tree at the balcony was amazing. Beautiful beach right below the hotel at a walking distance of 5 minutes. Loved it!

Wonderful staff, excellent hospitality. Matthew arranges transport for us so we could really experience everything we wanted to do and see, while staying at this charming villa. The breakfast was lovely and they made accommodations for us as vegans. The owner and driver were both perfectly lovely towards us. Beautiful location near the beach! We will stay here again. Thank you!

The staff are brilliant!! Very helpful.. they let us used their small kitchen but i think u need to provide a separate utensils and kitchen utensils for the clients who would want to use it. but needs a bit of refurbishment the pool and the dining area..room as well. The area is a bit dark, as you need a car to go around the island maybe considerations who cant really drive or rent a car. Maybe a mini bus operated that has certain times to take u around or drop u to the nearest beach like beau vallon. I know its not possible but i think it will be a good promotion to ur area as well as u have this services to offer. Bus times with drop off and pick up, and maybe u can ask for a small payment..
if you dont have your own transport. then i would not recommend. however the staff and owner were very kind.

I should have realised by the name, Hill Top Villa, the hotel was indeed right at the top of a very steep hill, a long way from a bus stop which meant huge costs of taking taxis, some 300 rupees to get into the town, but really the only way of access,I am recovering from a knee replacement so unable to walk hard enough to walk down but imposible to walk up,altogther the wrong place to stay and vastly over priced !

Could be better for the price...
You need a car for this hotel as there is basically nothing around walking distance...it is a steep uphill and especially at night not convenient...take a blanket as the one provided is like an aircraft style little blanket..
Spent there 2weeks in February with the wife.Immediately upon arrival the Lady that runs the place requested full payment.Ok...no worries I paid....sth like 1600US.
Got notyfied the room was equipped with a safe which was true.
So..the following day we put all cash inside..covered it (unintentionally) with passports and some other docs...with two wallets on top.One empty...one with 400 US inside.
Coming back...I checked the safe....400 US from the wallet was missing....with my code still working.I locked the safe...had a close look at it..and inserted 4x0. It sprang open with my code still intact.
Reported the theft to the lady owner....welll..finally she in a way suggested that I wanted to cheat on her. Having paid for the whole period on arrival...I had to stay there...which was awfully uncomfortable.
That was the worst experience I have ever had with a holiday accomodation so I will give the place wide berth in the future.
There were other things like cleaning etc...but acceptable.
We arrived to the villa after check-in time and the host Irene greeted us with two glasses of juice and a welcoming introduction. Everything went smooth from then on, we could always count on her help. We did not manage to try home-made cuisine or the designated restaurant and beach of Carana but that's only because we chose this place for Beau Vallon / Victoria proximity and driving around (highly recommended by car especially as this charming villa is located on top of a hill as the name suggests).
The room and space around is just as the pictures show it, maybe with exception of the pool as it is quite short 5x3m, and seems like not all the surfaces are covered by tiles (maintenance?)
The room had a fridge TV a small balcony an interesting rocking chair and a very spacious bathroom with tub. (Room 2 it was). For the sensitive: interior of the villa is not air-conditioned and the steps of the staircase can be a bit short for some.
During our short 2 night stay we didn't get to fully enjoy the hospitality of very friendly hosts and staff, but we sure made the most of it with the help of Irene and her map we fully indulged into Mahe.
+ bottles of water and help with luggage
- wifi could use an upgrade
This comfortable B & B type hotel is like staying at a lovely, small plantation private home. My room was large and comfortable with a small balcony overlooking a wooded hillside. The staff made me feel very welcome and cared for.
The breakfast was cooked to order and served in an attractive, covered but open-air verandah, overlooking the nearby forested hills.
The personal attention I received from the staff was phenomenal. No only was our room constantly taken care of, but the staff went out of their way to ensure we were not bothered.
We enjoyed our stay in the hotel in general. It's location without a car is tiresome climbing the hill. The hotel is run like a family set up not professionally as expected. That makes it good with children. Some people like this family like set up while others may not. Sometimes they would even forget the real food you ordered by midday and replace it with readily available. We were surprised that they changed bed sheets weekly after reminding them. I can't remember getting any soap for bathing apart our first day. May be you can ask for that, we didn't ask. The food is very expensive and no varieties available. Paying €25 per person and €10 per child is really high in that island. The food was nice. The lady is friendly and the husband is cool. They assisted us with padlock when we forgot to carry our bunch of keys.
+ amazing dinner, nice pool, nice and clean room with air-conditioning and the owner was really kind
- internet is too slow, amazing beach is about 10 min. by walk, you need a car if you want to visit other beach or buy something in a shop
