The Normandie Hostel is a great spot, with clean rooms and a friendly vibe. The staff is super helpful, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. Plus, the location is super convenient for exploring the city.

The place is great and feels safe. I am a female solo traveling and my time of arrival was close to midnight so I'm glad there is plenty of lighting. I also contacted the property management for entry and was immediately replied to. The only downside is the smell of weed and sweat. Everything else is great.

The building itself looks great and new. The common area (the kitchen) was just like on the photos- new, clean and spacious. However, the room I was in was clearly not maintained well as well as not being properly cleaned and inspected. Starting from the lockers which are located behind sliding mirrored doors which are falling apart and, quite frankly, I wouldnt be surprised if they fall off the hinges one day (hopefully not on a guest). The bed bunk i was allocated to was not properly cleaned as there was someone's used water bottle, dirty make up pad, and some seeds right between the wall and the matress. Also, on top part of the bunk (you could call it a ceiling) there were massive stains on them as if there was some kind of liquid spilled on the bunk bed above. All in all this would be an amazing hostel if they made an effort to fix it and maintain it.

Basic but Adequate

A little out of the way, the area was quiet. A local friend pointed out some indicators that it was not the best (safest) neighborhood; I found it enjoyable and interesting. The service itself was fairly nonexistent - the owner rarely replied, it was difficult to find out how to use or locate anything; there were no TVs, furniture was extremely minimal, and the blinds let in the sunlight.

I was greeted immediately by a guest who offered to help me with my bags & a staff member who confirmed my reservation. The area & house was clean. The bedroom has a privacy curtain for each bed. The kitchen had your basics except it didn't have a microwave. They do enforce quiet hours after 10pm, but even during the day it's pretty quiet. The neighborhood can be a little off putting to some, but it's down the street from the bus & if you drive it's in a central location to a lot of places (food & fun).

Very clean and modern, but this place is bland and clinical. Biggest problem is there is no onsite parking- you have to search hard to get street parking and that may not be near the property. The only furniture in the room is the bed and a nightstand. There is no bedside lamp so you can’t read a book and there’s no TV so I can’t plug in my computer. It wasn’t my thing at all.

There is no office. I had to call a phone number and wait for the guy. They had no record of my reservation. Uts a totally renovated building. Cant walk anywhere must bus or uber. Its a room with a bed and a nightstand and a fridge. Cheap walmart pillows. There was no soap in bathroon i had to walk to walgreens to buy soap. Its a noce place for the price.

Not bad in a pinch, great location.

Street parking was easy and free, and easy to get into the hostel itself, instructions very clear. I stayed in all-female room. When I checked myself in, my bed did not have pillows, blanket, or any bedding except the fitted sheet on the mattress. Could not find any additional linens, towels, anything at all. Kitchen was filthy when I arrived, spilled food in fridge, no basics at all on hand including bottled water that I could find. Bunk had USB port but no electric outlet to charge, luckily I had a cable adapter that worked. Bathroom was clean but trash can was overflowing when I arrived at 4 pm. The other girls in the room were loud, left their stuff everywhere and filled the entire closet. No locking cabinets or storage to put your stuff securely, just a closet that everyone shares so your stuff is never safe if unattended. Also, our room did not have a fan, people on balcony were smoking marijuana and it made our room reek like it. However, convenient location, very cheap, and I would stay here again if I was traveling very light. Definitely bring noise cancelling earplugs or headphones, and a USB charger. Also bring your own towel and pillow.

Please read before booking

First, I wasn’t checked in until 8 PM. Then when I did check in the room that was assigned to me had somebody in. This was my first hostel stay so I wasn’t certain what to expect. But being a female, why would they feel comfortable with putting me in the room with three other. I didn’t get reassigned until almost 12:00 AM just to end up get bitten up by bed bugs. This was the most horrendous experience? Definitely not recommend

One of the better hostels in LA. Prompt response from host. Easy check-in as long as you upload ID. Mostly clean expect the fl of female dorm bathroom. Only one bathroom for female dorm. Nice, well-stocked kitchen w/several pots, utensils etc. Only an uncomfortable bench available for indoor seating. Can't sit on the patio chairs in the back b/c of discarded cigarettes all over the ground & guests throw things from patio. Mostly long-term residents there. Wifi not the best.

Give it a miss if you're after cleaniness

The hostel clearly only puts positive reviews up. The room was adequate for my stay and quiet but the community kitchen was atrocious and the kitchen sink remained blocked and putrid my entire 4 night stay. I contacted only by text message to convey uncleanness and they said their team would take care of it. NO! They failed to give me info on wifi connection and an app had control of the laundry.??? Hot water for a shower was only just warm enough not to add any cold into the mix. No real person to actually have a conversation with was sighted.I only saw the bad reviews after I arrived unfortunately. It was quiet and reasonably convenient location for my needs but many homeless on the streets and I didn't feel safe to leave anything of value in my room because they wouldn't explain the same code for the front door and my room. How do they know who's coming in?
