The room was clean,bright and luminous. The 'patron' was very helpful and was keen to tell us about places of interest to visit in Lille.We took up his suggestion to visit l'Hermitage Gantois where the staff were kind enough to let us visit the former chapel with its former altar in the sanctuary and the nave transformed into a reception room.

Le Napoleon is a convenient choice for a short stay in Lille, especially because of its excellent location directly opposite Lille Flandres station and just above a busy restaurant, making it easy to find and ideal for travelers arriving by train. The hotel can feel quite busy, and staff are not always immediately available. If no one is at reception when you arrive, you may need to wait a little, which can be challenging after a journey. During our stay, the elevator was out of order. However, the staff were helpful and offered assistance with our luggage to reach our room on the second floor. The stairs were somewhat difficult but still manageable. The shower is very small, which may not suit everyone. That said, the hotel's central location makes it a good option for a quick overnight stay in Lille.

This hotel was perfect for a quick stay in Lille. Service was friendly and room was just fine. They allowed us to drop our bags off early so we didn’t have to walk around with them. The only negative was when we entered our room it was full of flies but that was due to a window being left open. Overall was a good stay.

Would have liked person checking me in to make it clear there are two options for breakfast (which was served in room above the bar that I didn't like much): better to just order breakfast in the bar if wanting croissant and coffee. Location was amazing with a pleasant welcome however our trip changed when we discovered that raw sewage was coming up through our shower tray. We informed staff of this who seemed very disinterested. This then gradually got worse before going across our floor, making the bathroom unusable. The sewage was then going through the ceiling to the floor below and eventually down a further floor to the restaurant. Even at this point the staff only said that they would ring ‘the big boss’. At no point did they seem apologetic towards us. We had to leave the room for the day and fortunately it had been repaired on our return minus the smell but not what you expect even from a budget hotel.
