Hotel nice rooms clean needs a little work no tables in room had to eat on the bed and not a towel rack in bathroom to hang up wet towels over all had a nice stay not a place for a week end stay

My stay at the Sunset Motel was fantastic. The property is in the process of being updated. The rooms have been nicely updated and are very clean and comfortable.The couple who own the motel are friendly and are in the process of turning the motel into something special. Great location as well with stunning views of the water. I look forward to staying here again.

We stayed at Sunset Motel in July, 2023. We were in one of the renovated units. The unit was clean and equipped for everything needed for our stay. The motel grounds are well maintained. Although there is some renovation going on, the owners make sure the guests are not inconvenienced.

This room was very clean and bright. Our bathroom fan in room 15 was pretty loud and the refrigerator had a high pitch sound when it was running. The firm mattress was the best treat for me and the sheets and blanket were wonderfully crisp. Well worth the rental fee.

They have remodeled the interior and it looks great! I enjoyed having a swimming pool however, the neighbor lady and her 3 kids were in it the entire day, jumping and splashing and yelling. They left their toys and dirty towels everywhere. Sure would have been peaceful if only guests were swimming.

Check in was easy. There is no contact they send you a code. Clean and simple room. Uncomfortable bed but it was a short stay luckily.

Construction and allergic reaction to beds

They were renovating their parking lot and it made it very difficult to get to and from our room having to walk through wet mud and up without steps. Very few outlets in the room. Beds were memory foam mattress which both my sister and I are allergic to which we both ended up with migraines hers so severe she was throwing up all night. Had this been disclosed we would not have booked this hotel.

I was camping nearby with family and our last day was forecasted to have a lot of storms so we packed up a day early and looked for a hotel to stay at. After booking the room I received a text with our room number and a code to unlock the door, which was very nice. We didn't have to check in art the front desk or anything like that, just pulled in and got into our room. The rooms do look like they've been somewhat updated since the pictures were taken as our room did not have drop ceilings. It was clean and smelled nice. Our room had a fridge and a small microwave, but oddly no phone in the room. This was not an issue for us but it's the first time I've been in a hotel with no phone. We did have an issue with the toilet but we called the number provided and someone came shortly after and it was fixed quickly. This place is not the Ritz but it met our needs and we had no real complaints at the end of our stay.

Don’t stay here!!

Not so good! Rooms were so old that they need to be gutted and start from scratch to improve. These rooms shouldn’t even be rented. The health department should get in there and close them done. Rack on wall for clothes is ready o fall onto someone, carpet smells and is full of spots, bed is uncomfortable. I could go on. Asked for a first floor room and the one available wasn’t fit for anyone!! The outside stairs were dangerous With rain and slippery, outside carpet was wrinkled and a tripping hazard. A lawsuit waiting to happen. We will never stay there again. No ice available and asked that you take garbage to the back dumpster. We paid close to $200 a night and no amenities at all.

Sunset Motel – Lake City, MN The Sunset Motel has potential, but it’s definitely a work in progress. The room was tiny, with furnishings to match. The retro-style chairs looked cool, but sitting in them felt like an act of faith — I was half afraid they’d give out mid-sit. Cleanliness was mostly okay, except for a few long black hairs (we’re gray and blond, so definitely not ours). The door, however, has seen better days — more chipped than my Aunt Zelda’s manicure after a week at the casino. With a little attention to detail and a touch of TLC, this place could shine like its name suggests. For now, it’s more of a twilight than a sunset experience.
