Vacations Close To Lake Gantikow

This is a very tired old hotel. When I arrived to my floor it smelled so bad - not the room - the hallways. It was like someone hd cooked Indian food there for many years and the carpet retained the odor. The room simply smelled like air freshener (and years go smoke - probably embedded in the carpet). The bed was seriously lumpy. From what I observed, most of the hotel guests were foreigners - not sure if they were also being sold a bill of goods because of the pictures on the hotel web site. I picked this hotel based on the price, the pictures and the location. By the way, the location was great! Only a few blocks from Central Park, a very easy bus ride to get to the Upper East Side, and close to many good restaurants and public transit. I was only there to sleep and shower - I spent most of my time with family across the park - but if this was a vacation, I would not have been happy.

We had a fantastic stay, the location was perfect. Rooms were clean and spacious. Staff were friendly and the room was made up everyday with fresh towels. Breakfast was amazing and plentiful but it did get busy so get there as early as possible. Short walk to Train station and very close to tube. Just beware of yellow cabs from airport. We knew it was a standard price into the city and that you could pay by card. Our driver asked for cash which we genuinely didn’t have a great deal of. He kept pestering us saying he wouldn’t get paid for two weeks. He said we were rich and could afford it. When I finally said no sternly he started driving erratically dodging in and out of traffic at speed muttering in a foreign language under his breath. Do not be intimidated by this. Just say no. I must say that was the only negative experience we had.

Great hotel in the very best zone of Manhattan. The staff was so kind and hepful. To note: Not VIP recognized and didnt offer any benefit.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was super crowded and two folks group couldn’t get food. Elevators slow but that’s probably typical in older buildings in NYC. Overall great value and convenient location.

Great location. Staff are always helpful and hotel is clean and beds are very comfortable.

STAFF WAS REALLY HELPFUL

In a very quiet part of town that is easily accessible to everything. The rooms are nice, bathrooms are very spacious. The lounge area was timeless. It had the appeal of an old speakeasy. This place definitely feels like a hidden gem. Also, follow Lenny, he brings a classic sort of magic to the whole experience.
