English speaking owner very focussed on guest comfort. Simple traditional guest house accommodation, tatami mats & futon bedding very clean and comfortable. Easy walk to train and bus, 20 minute walk to Nijo Castle. Good guest experience.

The owner Tomi is extremely attentive and will provide you with a multitude of services within and around the guest house. The traditional Japanese rooms are located on the second floor up a VERY STEEP set of stairs, keep that in mind for luggage and beverages. The onsen around the corner is super nice and you’re nearby to both JR station and local subways. Tomi also cooks egg breakfast sandwiches daily 7-9 am, has tea, coffee, and cold water/electric kettle available anytime. 12-5 pm is cleaning hours and you cannot stay in the building during this time as far as I’m aware.

Tommy always makes you feel at home, a great place to stay if you want to experience Kyoto like a local. The guesthouse is minutes away from both metro an JR stations, there are businesses, convenience stores, public baths and everything you need to feel at home.

Wonderful stay in Kyoto

Tommy is a friendly and kind host, and his place is neat and cozy. He always show hospitality and gives good suggestion on places to visit. I had some interesting chats with Tommy and his staff Mackey. Highly recommend Guest House Oumi to those who want to stay in Kyoto.

Everything was fine. However we aren't used to small spaces before. And while staying in the room we felt a bit cramped. Although we knew about this in advance-we had read about small spaces in Japanese hotels in magazine before our trip to Japan. One the other hand, we loved traditional atmosphere.

Tommy- what a host!! Guy was super nice, tried to be as accommodating as possible… had I been better prepared, mentally, maybe even read what I was getting into, 10s across the board. I am a hotel traditionalist… but now I can say- been there! Lol, thank you again!!! Kudos!

I highly recommend Guest House Oumi. The surrounding neighborhood is very quiet and it's a 5 min walk away from Nijo station which is very convenient. Tonii-san, the main operator of the guest house, was incredibly friendly and hospitable towards me and the other guests. I asked to switch beds in one of the rooms I was staying in and he allowed me to do so without hesitation. He also provided an iron and ironing board when I inquired about it. As an added bonus, the breakfast sandwiches were delightful.

平日のゲストハウスとはいえ個室でお安く泊まることができ感謝しております。 また機会があれば利用したいですが、21時までに入れなければ加算が大きいので仕事終わりに向かう時などは厳しいかなぁ。 今回はシャワー利用させてもらいましたが、近くのお勧め銭湯(ただしトイレは無しとのこと)にも行ってみたいです。 他の方も書いておられますがフリードリンクや朝食サンドもありがたかったです。

毎朝のサンドイッチ、無料の飲み物が嬉しい反面24時間オープンなのは少し不安でした。二階に上がるのに急な階段なので個室利用の方は大変かと思います。ドミトリーは一階で便利でした。ドミトリー部屋のドアにも鍵はなく、貴重品は鍵付きの小さいロッカーに入れます。部屋が狭いので荷物の整理などは少し工夫が必要です。

とても快適な宿

オーナーがしっかり気を使っていただき、常に清潔で快適に滞在できる空間を作ってくれている。会話も楽しく、朝食のサンドイッチも最高だ。昼間の時間には滞在不可なのはネックで、チェックインが5時なのもちょっと大変だが、それ以上のものがここにはある。次に来た時もまた是非お世話になろうと思う。一押しの宿である。

はじめてのゲストハウス。最高でした。

初めてのゲストハウスということもあり、着くまで不安と緊張でいっぱいでした。しかしフロントでTommyさんが暖かく迎えてくださり、その緊張が一気になくなりました。 チェックインからチェックアウトまで「何かお困りごとないですか？」と逐一聞いていただけたので不安なく一夜を過ごせました。 本当に暖かく迎えていただきました。また機会があれば是非とも利用したいゲストハウスでした。
