Relaxing and magical stay

Absolutely wonderful stay. The food was amazing, the staff was so kind and helpful and the area around Koyasan was beautiful. It was one of our favorite places to visit.

Way overpriced for what it was. While the garden and the services were good, it’s not a working temple for monks. It’s more like an inn for tourists in a temple structure. The morning Buddhist service gave me the feeling that it was just catered for tourists. By all means check out Koyasan during the day but you would be better off staying outside the mountain for a fraction of the cost. There’s nothing extra zen about staying at this place.

Had a good one night stay here. I was worried it wouldn’t be enough time to see everything i wanted too, but it turned out to be perfect. You can drop off your luggage before and after you check in which is really nice. Highlights for me were the public bath, and morning ceremony.

Perfect!

My family had a truly amazing stay here. One of the best experiences of our trip through Japan. The temple and surrounding area is beautiful. The staff spoke excellent English and the vegetarian food was great. Get up for the morning prayers if you can.

Excellent experience. The vegetarian shojin ryori is delicious. Our room was fantastic. The head monk reads the sutras every morning at 6:30 and allowed us to sit and listen. It is centrally located amongst all the main sites except Okunoin. 5 stars.

- A convenient location to visit nearby temples and museums within walking distance or by bus. - I enjoyed the traditional Japanese morning prayer service (starting at 6:30am). - Nice vegetarian meal set (we ordered additional meal set as local shops and cafes close around 5pm) - Look out for email confirmation from Jokiin - their check-in hour is quite short compared to commercial hotels
