To me, the environment in Yau Tsim Mong, Kowloon, is relatively familiar and deeply intimate. You can easily reach area for eating or shopping; or take the high-speed rail to the mainland or HK Airport MTR to the airport, saving you a lot of time.
Busy, lots to see and do.
Busy and full of restaurants/shops, but nothing unique compared to other areas
Kowloon is intense. It feels more like New York or Tokyo than Taipei or Shanghai. The street pattern is tricky -- you really need a map, and a GPS-based navigation is a huge help. Dorsett Mongkok will give you a phone for that: use it!
