The hotel is very dated, the staff appeared unwelcoming and constantly masked up. The hotel decoration is from the 70's, you had to leave your shoes in reception and wear slippers.
It's the only place I've been asked to wear gloves to obtain food from the breakfast buffet. The breakfast food was fine, fresh fruit, croissants, scrambled eggs, fish were all available but curry for breakfast was a first for me.
Overall it was a bit odd.
On the positive side, the room had a nice view over the lake, was a nice size and the bedding was clean.

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
It’s a great place for a couple or a family with quiet children. Room had rather old fashioned equipment. Finding a switch was like looking for a needle in a haystack. But the views were fantastic, onsen (gender separated), was really nice, food was ok. Oh and I enjoyed the yukata and massage chairs!
Property is a bit dated. Staff were efficient but not overly welcoming. The atmosphere was inhospitable.
This was the only property out of of all places we stayed at in Japan where we were required to wear plastic gloves in the dining area. The gloves werent latex and because they were plastic, it made it dangerous picking up plates etc.
This hotel was my favourite experience in Japan. The most striking feature is the view of Lake Kawaguchi upon entering the room. The room is also spacious and you are supplied with a yukata to wear inside the hotel. This adds to the experience of immersing yourself in the culture. The whole hotel can only be navigated in the supplied house slippers (shoes left in lobby).
The parts that stood out to me was the food we had for breakfast and dinner (half-board). I always left too full to move! The food was supplied to the table, but you could also grab food from the buffet. It was a feast.
The onsen was also fantastic. However, I went when the hotel wasn't busy (December) so I always had the onsen to myself. The massage chairs and cold tea was a good touch.
The staff are very friendly with sufficient English.
Although the hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Kawaguchiko Station, we could have taken the Red Line bus (covered by the passes) from the station to the Kawaguchiko rope way which shares the same ramp (the white building in the first photo is the hotel). The view from the hotel room is stunning (second photo).
As in Hakone, you have to pay a 300 yen onset tax.
The staff do not speak English well, but they were friendly and tried to help.
If you ask them ahead of time, they can drive you to the Kawaguchiko station after you check out.
