A very nice little hotel with tidy clean room with lots of little touches such as coffees, teas biscuits etc.
Excellent evening meal at reasonable cost.
Good breakfast with good choice.
Friendly service and nice decor in dining room.
Good location just off the A75 road.
Stayed one night on road trip around south-west Scotland. Easy entry to property using key code. Room clean and well kept. Although no dedicated parking to problem with on street parking near the hotel. Great breakfast and staff helpful and friendly. Would stay again.
It was a nice quiet, clean, ideal for walks & lovely scenery, small village place to stay. A little confusion with booking was very quickly & warmly resolved. Stayed 1st night here then did a night in Kirkcudbright next after walking there & back from this property. Passed a lot of cows on our walk & the saying is very true "nosey cows" made us lol......
It was more of a room without the hotel services because the hotel is now only open at weekends and we stayed on a Monday. The room was clean and the beds were comfy. Not much else to say.
The landlady was lovely. The breakfast was excellent and the evening meal we had was good too. The menu is very extensive and reasonably priced. Everyone was friendly and the service was good. The rooms were not clean, smelly and tired. The bathroom was not clean. We didn’t complain because we were staying with friends and they booked the accommodation. So we didn’t want to cause any upset for them. A mixed review really. We understand that the owners are new, so let’s hope that they do a good job of improving things.
i have stayed at this hotel many times and always are happy

Liked: Staff & service, room comfort
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Quiet village pub
New owners are planning a refit of the bedrooms, which is most definitely needed.
Staff were all friendly & helpful.
All meals home cooked & good value.

The area is a nice area however there was a problem with a loud live feed/music broadcast coming from room No.2 of 3 rooms, through the wall in the property from 1am until 4am. The owners said there was nobody staying in the room and the TV wasn't on standby but removed the plugs from socket to make sure. They were perplexed what it might be despite hearing recordings (possibly a staff member making some extra cash through the night?) and offered a refund as I didnt stay the last night of 3.
However when I asked them to refund through Expedia no further contact and a message from Expedia they couldn't be contacted so no refund given.
I wasn't planning to leave a review as they are just starting out however after the experience and no response I felt it best to let people know just in case it happens to others.
Lovely wee hotel in a great location for exploring Galloway. Staff were welcoming and friendly.
The only issue we had was with the noise of fellow guests next door (fire doors slamming and waking us up all through the night, snoring, dog whining at 7am) as the rooms weren’t well soundproofed however there was nothing the hotel staff could have done about that whilst we were there.
The hotel was clean and well maintained and I would stay there again!
Functional. Great location. Worked out well for us. Be aware it might be quite a late check-in (5.30 for us - but called and got earlier access). On the whole, I would say the price was high for what it is, but then we are just emerging from Covid restrictions and spaces were limited.
You can eat there in the evening - friendly ambience.

Quaint little hotel
This is a quaint little pub with 3 rooms to the rear. The room was small but had everything I needed for one nights' stay. The food in the hotel was nice.
The food and accommodation was excellent. We had to leave very early in the morning. We were given breakfast much earlier than would normally be the case. It seemed to be no trouble to the proprietor to whome we were very grateful. She could not have been more helpful. we would recommend this hotel to anyone.
The Star hotel was comfortable enough and staff very friendly. The breakfast was very good. The only problem is that this hotel is not in Kirkcudbright as advertised on hotels.com, (where there are pubs and cafes), but in a wee village called Twynholm almost 3 miles away. So good hotel if you want peace and quiet, not so good for entertainment.
