It is a symbol of identity in Kandyan Architecture. In the olden days, the king would stand there to address his citizens who were gathered in front of him. The golden roof behind stands over the Buddha tooth relic that this temple is famous for. Great 1 night stay, room with clean luxury bedding, bathroom great although bathroom blind needed cleaning. Lovely buffet breakfast. Lots of good restaurants locally or you can walk into Kandy centre along the lake in 25 minutes

Excellent hotel but distracting phone calls

The hotel was really good, and both the room and location were excellent. However, despite the fact that breakfast was available until 10 AM, we received a phone call in our room at 9 AM reminding us to come eat. Additionally, with checkout at 11 AM, we got another call at 10:40 AM asking if we were coming to check out, which felt again a bit rushed. On the positive side, the breakfast was great, but the room service food was not very good.
